Why Decorate With Yellow?
Depending on the shade of yellow you are after and the design theme you choose for your primary bedroom, yellow can really stand out on its own. Yellow stripes on the wall will give amazing eye-lines that can easily tie in with soft colors or soften bolder ones.
Check out our photo gallery of yellow primary bedroom designs for more ideas on how to use yellow in your bedroom.
Dominant or Accent?
Yellow as a primary bedroom color can easily fail if it is outrageously overdone. Before you begin decorating with yellow, you must consider the level of detail you are after. Too much yellow can spoil the design. If yellow is your dominant color, you should use it to paint an accent wall.
Yellow as an accent will play nice with grays or muted colors. Table lamps, curtains, and bedding will tie in nicely with a yellow accent wall or a yellow border strip around the crown molding. The accent limits are virtually endless. Art, rugs, and even desktop decorations in yellow will always work.
Throw pillows and chair coverings in yellow also bring the room together.
Accenting With Yellow
Out of the 332061 bedrooms we analyzed, only 0.93% of them were yellow. Making yellow the 4th least used color for primary bedrooms. If yellow is your choice, you have a lot of options for decorations though.
Using the right shade or combining various shades of yellow is relatively easy, too. You can run the full spectrum of yellow to pull off an amazing look. Various lighter shades work well on walls with darker or more prominent shades used for accents.
Floor lamps and window dressings will add a cheerful appearance and will radiate the natural light of the room. Don’t be afraid to splash yellow around the bed and floors as well. Rugs and throw pillows will really set off the mood of the room.
Design Styles it Works With
Yellow won’t work with many styles or theme out there. Traditional themes and Beach styles, for example, utilize yellow very well as these are usually softer and brighter in their color schemes.
Tropical, Southwestern, rustic and eclectic themes will also use yellow without any fuss. Their softer statements and free design features allow the use of the full yellow spectrum. These themes work best with yellow as an accent color or a primary color.
