How much do loft-style houses cost per square feet (approximately)?

The cost of a beautiful two-story home with a loft is approximately $131.83 per square foot for a 2,655 square foot house. This cost varies depending on the size of the home and where it is located or the location of the lot in which it will be constructed.

Are there loft-style floor plans with a detached garage?  Is it possible?

It is completely possible for a loft-style house to have a detached garage. The loft can be constructed over another part of the house if it is a one-story plan, ranch-style house. For a two-story house that needs a loft added to it, you would probably have to add-on a room addition on the first floor to be able to create a loft but it is possible. The average cost per square foot to build a loft onto an existing house is about $90 to $110 per square foot. So, yes, it is possible to have plans for a loft-style house created to also feature a detached garage if the homeowner prefers the plans to be completed that way.

Does a loft-style house usually come with a garage?

Yes, a loft-style house normally has an attached garage because most of the time the loft is constructed directly above the attached garage to the home.

Is loft-style considered a grand or luxury style of home?  Is the style used for mansions or normally regular-sized homes?

Any type of home can feature a loft. Older homes generally have a walk-up attic which can be referred to as a loft and certainly created to become one. The same goes for mansions as older ones will almost always feature a large walk-up attic that can be used as a loft and many newer built mansions feature a loft that was built right into their design.

Is loft-style ever built as a “small” home?  Can it be built economically?

Yes, even many tiny homes feature a loft area that is sometimes used as a bedroom. A loft can be built into any size of a home.

Can loft-style floor plans be open concept?

Many homes that feature lofts also have an open concept. Older homes with an attic loft may not but can be renovated to become an open concept home.

What are popular loft style exterior colors?

Loft style houses can be built or can feature any style or color for the exterior, depending on the preferences of the homeowner.

Can you build loft-style house on a narrow lot?

You can construct a loft-style house on a narrow lot by simply building the loft on the top floor or above the garage.

Can this style be built on a wide lot?

Yes, a loft-style house can be constructed on a wide lot because a loft is normally located on the top floor of the home or above the garage area.

Can loft-style homes be built on a sloping lot?

Yes, the architect can create the plans for a new build to feature a loft area even if the lot is a sloping one.

How many floors/stories does loft-style usually have?

The home buyer can choose any style of home with as many floors as they so choose and still have a loft added into the house plans. If an attic is being turned into a loft on an already existing home, it will more than likely be a two-story home.

Do loft-style houses have a basement?

Whether a loft-style house has a basement will be left up to the homeowner. Some people prefer a basement while others do not want one. If plans are being designed to add a loft to an already existing home, the house may already sport a basement.

Does this style of house ever come with a bonus room?

Many times when the floor plans of a new house are designed, they feature a bonus room that actually is the loft.

Do loft-style floor plans come with energy-efficient options?

Yes, nearly all new builds will feature energy-efficient options in today’s market. If you are renovated an older home to feature a loft, you will have to add-in the energy-efficient options.

Is a porch a common design feature with loft-style houses?

Whether a home with a loft is a new build or an older home that features an attic loft, the homes almost always feature a front porch, usually a large one. Some even have a large back porch area too.

What types of roof does a loft-style house typically have?

A loft-style house can have any type of roof. My house features a loft and I have a metal roof while my neighbor has a shingle roof and his house also features a loft.

Does loft-style work well with a rustic interior decor?  Or is it more suited to a contemporary interior?

Loft style will work with a rustic interior décor for the simple fact that it was originally inspired by barns. My aunt built a gorgeous one-story house with high ceilings and a loft back in the 1980s. Her home was created to resemble a barn and it featured a rustic interior. I prefer a more contemporary look and feel to a home and can see how I could have changed her home to that type of décor pretty easily simply by changing the décor features.
