If I asked someone to name what they thought the boldest color was, I think 9/10 people would probably say red. Red just says something. Whether it’s in a room, on a piece of clothing, on a canvas, as a flower, or anywhere else, using red is evidently making a statement.
When it comes to decorating your home, sometimes being decisive about using any dominant type of color can feel challenging. I myself can only commit to having completely white walls, let alone choosing a color as an accent wall! Sometimes we need a little bit of help to take the plunge.
That’s why we’ve created this collection of red living room ideas that are committed to the bold and beautiful theme: red. Whether it’s on the walls, the furniture, or ever-present in the decor, this collection will get you to fall in love with red-themed interior design.
1. The Comfy, Cozy, Classic Red Living Room
Floors & Walls: We’re starting off this collection with a room that is so fabulously cozy I wish I could just jump through the screen and take a nap. Red is being used wisely in this space, using red paint for the walls, but tonight it is down with a really warm and gentle shade of cream for the trim. This really prevents the red color scheme from becoming overbearing and loud. This is a combiner with a lovely rustic wood floor to keep everything classic, traditional, and timelessly inviting.
Furniture: Nothing but the most plush furniture is being used in this space, letting you know that this room is for comfortable and cozy interactions. Even the center coffee table is a plush ottoman that you can kick up your feet on. We see tinges of red throughout the furniture piece as well, really tying everything together with those patterns.
Decor: Very classic decor has been used in this room, especially in the lamps dispersed throughout the room. A very ornate golden chandelier hangs in the center of the room, while elegant vases and mirrors are placed throughout, adding bits of class everywhere you look.
2. The Fireplace Corner Red Living Room
Floors & Walls: While still classic and traditional, there is a bit more of a modern twist in this room. We’re seeing a gorgeous rusty shade of red that is being toned down again by some cream trimand toned down again by the tan-colored carpeting in the space. Cream and red seem to be the theme in the space, really hitting home that it’s the perfect combination for a reasonably bold duo.
Furniture: The furniture piece that really stands out in this room is the huge L-shaped sectional sofa. It’s made from a gorgeous shade of creamy leather, and what I love most about it is how low-set and deep it is. I particularly love the shape of the upper part of it, really encourages some serious lounging.
Decor: I really appreciate the decoration in this room. While individually, each piece is rather minimal, when they’re put together, the room feels filled with beautiful things. We mostly see beautiful vases and potted plants, with the greenery of the plants providing a really nice contrast to the red walls.
3. The Black, White, & Red Living Room
Floors & Walls: We’re getting more modern by the minute with each passing space. This room feels elevated into modernity with really gorgeous marble tiles in a lighter tone for the floors, combined with some really bold red walls. The accent wall in this space is a white one which is a rather different approach.
Furniture: While this isn’t my personal favorite room, I do admire the dedication to red in the space. Combined with the red walls, we have two plush red sofas set against the white wall to keep the contrast going. Unique and oddly shaped furniture pieces scattered throughout the room contribute to the more modern feel.
Decor: This living space is really committing to boldness with the shapes and styles of the accessories in the room, but it’s softened up by beautiful potted orchids and warmly tinted light fixtures.
4. The Red Reading Room
Floors & Walls: This is truly a remarkable room you don’t see every day. They don’t make ’em like this anymore, with the traditionally patterned rug with tan and red and a truly incredible library complete with built-in shelves, superbly high ceilings, crown molding in the ceiling, and even a rolling ladder and rail system to get those books that are higher up.
Furniture: I’m really loving the furniture in this space, with a wonderfully deep green couch and a set of gorgeous caramel-colored leather lounging chairs. This is really the perfect reading room with comfortable seats and no distractions (other than maybe that beautiful pastoral view beyond the window).
Decor: With a foundation of a room this gorgeous, you really don’t need too much in terms of decoration, but we still get some with long curtains that match the green sofa, a beautiful chandelier in the center of the room, a potted orchid, and little figurines dispersed throughout the room. Lovely!

5. The Lovely in Red Sitting Room
Floors & Walls: Here, we have another extravagant room that is taller than it is wide, which is a refreshing sight when so many rooms are dedicated to being horizontally spacious. Gorgeous cherry wood floors are complimented by a stone fireplace and incredible stucco walls that guide you toward an impressive vaulted ceiling complete with exposed beams and a stone archway.
Furniture: Red is way more present in the furniture of this room but still holds its dominance. Patterned red accent chairs, a patterned red area rug, luxurious red curtains, and red-themed art bring the room together without being too overbearing.
Decor: With such bold pieces of furniture, it feels safer to use minimal decorations, which we see here in the form of a huge vase of white flowers, crystal bowls, candle holders, and a simple lamp. Where a lot of the decoration comes from is the beautiful view of the courtyard just beyond the French doors.

6. The Boldly Red Living Room
Floors & Walls: I really love how busy this room is, but it hasn’t reached the point of visual clutter. So many spaces these days are dedicated to minimalism, so it’s nice to see some maximalism every once in a while! This room starts with a speckled gray area rug, which guides us up to a super bold and beautiful shade of poppy red that is really accentuated thanks to the way the lights illuminate the walls. The craftsmanship is very apparent in the room, with built-in shelving and gorgeous molding throughout.
Furniture: Mismatched furniture brings a lovely shabby-chic aesthetic to the space, with a silk tassel sofa, a boldly patterned lounger, and a brown suede accent chair. A glass coffee table is spacious, but using a see-through material for a coffee table is a great way to ensure that a smaller space doesn’t feel too crowded.
Decor: With such bold pieces of furniture, you really don’t need much decoration in order to make a room feel complete. We still get decoration with some lovely throw pillows, an impressive collection of books, and a rather lovely framed picture of a loon. I love me a loon painting instead of a shelf mallard.

7. The Musically Red Living Room
Floors & Walls: We’re heading in a bit of a different direction with this room, which feels more productive than it is for lounging. Gorgeous rustic hardwood floors are decorated with a pristine Persian rug of royal blue and red, while bold red walls are offset by white trim and a white facade for the fireplace.
Furniture: Two very interestingly patterned accent chairs bring this room together, while a funky ottoman acts as the main piece of furniture in the room. Clearly, this is a room dedicated to musical inspiration, so lounging furniture isn’t needed!
Decor: I adore how instruments are the main form of decoration in this room, complete with an impressive collection of guitars, a grand piano, and a couple of others scattered about. Framed photos bring a bit of personality.

8. The Red Splash MCM Living Room
Floors & Walls: This fun, inviting, and stylish living room features classic wooden floors but starts to get interesting everywhere else. One wall is entirely a landscape window, another is a white brick wall, and the last is a beautifully deep red accent color. The ceiling also contributes so nicely to the space, with gorgeous exposed wood beams creating a rustic feel.
Furniture: I like how with a room this large, it gives you the option to have all of your furniture nicely spaced out. While red is clearly an adored color by the person who lives here, it’s not overwhelming. We have red side tables, a red accent chair, a nice modern gray velvet sofa, and a really gorgeous midcentury modern credenza.
Decor: There are so many bold pieces of decoration in this living room, and I am loving it. Matching table lamps beside the sofa emit a soft light, a sundial clock on the wall acts functionally and as a piece of art, while a really lovely shapely light fixture in the centre of the room is understated but stately!

9. The Almost Red Living Room
Floors & Walls: This classic beauty of a living room starts with a wood floor that is decorated with a lovely patterned area rug that matches the features of the room perfectly. The specific shade of red paint that has been chosen for the wall is particularly gorgeous. It’s rusty but still bright, red but rather orange, and it looks even more gorgeous considering the perfect shade of white around the fireplace and ceiling.
Furniture: This room is classic from root to tip, starting with these sofas with lovely upholstery and sharper edges, giving it a formal feel. The designer was smart in choosing a clear glass coffee table for the center of the room, as it’s a great way to ensure that a room doesn’t feel too cramped by a big block of furniture in the center of the room.
Decor: Classic again with the decoration in the space, with two matching accent mirrors hanging over some matching accent tables, complete with matching table lamps and some undertoned paintings to tie everything together. Blue accent pillows on the sofa match the artwork nicely.

10. The Cityscape Red Living Room
Floors & Walls: Now, this is an impressive room. Dark hardwood floors are brand new and adorned with a deep red and lovely textured area rug. We have a gorgeous set of landscape windows lining the entire wall, while the other walls are just lovely, with stunning wooden beams lining the ceiling.
Furniture: The choices of living room furniture for this space are classic, but they are reliably comfortable and stylish. The more classic furniture is really livened up by the choices of accessories that are generously scattered throughout the room.
Decor: I really enjoy how red isn’t exactly the focal point of this room, but it is very clearly adored. So many of the spaces that we’ve seen so far are red-themed because of a red wall, but this one has red accents as the decorative color in the room. We see this with the sprinkling of throw pillows, the stunning artwork hanging in the dining area, and in smaller features like the bowl on the coffee table or the table runner.

11. The Coziest Living Space
Floors & Walls: This just makes me think of what I imagine my dream mother-in-law’s home would look like if that makes any sense. This cozy and inviting room starts with a classic wood floor, but the real centerpiece of the room is clearly that incredible stone fireplace. I adore how both the walls and the vaulted ceiling are painted the same color of gently toned red and of course, cream trim to offset it.
Furniture: This room is just a collection of super plush and super classic furniture. Rounded edges, soft upholstery, and deep seats all come together to create a room that looks like it would be hard to leave on a relaxing evening.
Decor: I think I like this room so much because it’s so easily decorated. It’s not curated, it’s just lived in, and to me, that’s the best type of decor. We have a very impressive book collection, some lovely throw pillows, and of course, my all-time favorite, some happy potted ferns.

12. The Bricked Living Room
Floors & Walls: Here we have a completely different but clever take on a red living room: a room that is entirely made of red brick! I think this is something that everyone longs for at some point in their life, having a brick accent wall. It’s just so rustic and charming that is elevates any type of room.
Furniture: This little living room area is furnished with a very plush and comfortable tan couch and a media set. It seems to be a common choice to combine a shade of red with some shade of tan – I see it constantly!
Decor: This amazing loft area is decorated simply with a couple of hanging prints and a happy plant. The room itself is so gorgeous with its shining floors, enormous windows, and statement walls that it really doesn’t need much decoration in order to be amazing.

13. The Red Dynasty Living Room
Floors & Walls: I just felt that this room should be included in the collection because it is just so different and so special. While not many people would want a room this extravagant for their living room, you can’t help but appreciate the teal carpeting that’s dramatically contrasting the ornate red walls with matching teal trim.
Furniture: While the walls are making statements, the furniture might as well make some statements too! Here we have a very decorative set of furniture with two decorated ottomans and a very uniquely shaped sofa with gorgeous patterned upholstery.
Decor: The decoration in this living room is hard to beat. Decorative throw pillows accentuate the decorative sofa, while gorgeous lanterns emit a soft light illuminating some gorgeous paper prints as well as a beautiful painting featuring feminine blue flowers. Amazing.

14. The Rustic Red Living Room
Floors & Walls: Switching gears completely from the previous room, this space belongs in a getaway cabin. Vintage wood floors are decorated with a faded Persian rug, while red walls are complimented by a built-in shelf feature complete with a gas fireplace. Just exquisite.
Furniture: Two leather lazy boys are the only bits of furniture that you need for this lounging room, set directly in front of the fire with a tiny side table to fit your glass of scotch on. I love all of the choices that have been made for this room.
Decor: All I can really focus on is that taxidermy raccoon on the shelf, but I’ll take a moment to mention the cute throw pillows, quaint floor lamps, and wonderful collection of various books, dishes, and trinkets scattered all over the built-in shelving unit.
This wonderful living room has been sourced from Iliana Moore Interiors / Columbine Antiques.
15. The Ferocious Feline Living Room
Floors & Walls: We’re finishing off this collection with a very strong room. It is exquisite in every direction that you look, from floor to finish. Stunning antique and diagonally arranged wood floors are decorated with what looks like a leopard pelt, which brings us up to a beautiful shade of cherry red for the perfectly molded walls.
Furniture: I love the mismatched furniture in this space, particularly the vintage velour couch in a green that contrasts the walls so beautifully. Matching accent chairs with faded silk upholstery really accentuate the vintage chic feel of the room, and a marble coffee table brings in a little class.
Decor: I almost want to call this space shabby chic, but not really, because it’s basically 10% shabby and 90% chic, which is a pretty good ratio at the end of the day. Gorgeous velour throw pillows decorate a stunning couch, while framed prints entice you to get off your chair and do a little exploring.
