15 Large Bedroom Ideas to Create Your Ultimate Sanctuary

We all have a certain type of dream home in our minds, don’t we? I myself spend plenty of time imagining the type of home I’d raise a family in. It’s a bungalow with a wrap around porch, a coy pond in the front, tons of grass and a vegetable garden in the back, a super open kitchen/living concept with rounded edges, but I don’t often think about what the bedroom would look like. 

In order to come up with the very specific design ideas, we create most designs with the assistance of state-of-the-art AI interior design software.

For many folks, it may be the case that the bedroom is the room that you spend the least amount of time in, but that doesn’t at all mean that the design should come as an afterthought. The bedroom is the first thing you see when you wake up, and the last thing you see when you go to bed. It’s the place where you reboot, recharge, and get ready for your day. 

In case you’re having trouble imagining what your ultimate bedroom may look like, we’ve prepared a cheeky little gallery of some really incredible looking primary bedrooms that are not only impressive in design, but impressive in size. We hope that you enjoy! 

1. The Two-Room Master Bedroom 

This reference may not translate to everyone, but this bedroom design really reminds of me of Charlotte and Tray’s bedroom in Sex & the City, where they have their main bed room, and then a sweet little living area set right off of it. This article is dedicated to large bedrooms, and well, this one is so large that it has to be split in two!

Simplicity is key in this design, with lots of white basic elements with wooden accents that we see in the gorgeous hardwood flooring, the framing of the doorways and the secret closet as well. There’s a real rustic/antique vibe to this space, and I find that it makes the whole space feel very cozy and welcoming.

The living area portion is really special too, though we can only see so much of it. It’s quite spacious with a gorgeous leather sofa and accompanying wood coffee table. The green accent wall brings the coziness to a whole other level!

2. The Vivaciously Vaulted Bedroom 

This is a really special room in my opinion, and I think in part that’s because it has so many different fun things going on, but you can’t deny that the bones of the room are what really make it feel so extravagant, so cozy, and so unique.

You rarely see vaulted ceilings as spectacular as these, and it’s even more rare to see them in a master bedroom! I absolutely lose my shit every time I see a built in little reading area underneath some big bay windows, so you can probably guess that these really tickle my fancy. Take in the antique hardwood flooring and this room will be spectacular no matter what you put in it.

However, the designer here really had some fun when they were deciding how to decorate this stunning foundation. We stick to a certain color scheme, holding close to warmer darker colors with pops of blue and gold, but what’s really special is the variety of textures, textiles, and furniture pieces. 

3. The Ocean Side Master Bedroom 

Windows in a room are pretty much the most important thing in my opinion, so you can guess that this room is one of my favorites in the entire collection. The floor to ceiling windows here are so incredible and give so much to the room, making it feel like the beautiful day is just seeping in to your serene bedroom.

I love the color scheme here, building from the super dark and gorgeous hardwood floors, bringing that up to the door and window frames, and then lighting those features up with white walls and light gray accents everywhere else. 

The California king is obviously to die for, and I love how the buttoned design is carried on to the Chesterfield sofa that is set in front of its very own fireplace. This is truly an incredible room to behold. 

4. The Larger than Life Master Bedroom

I have never before seen a room like this. I think I may have seen a circular bed in Austin Powers or something like that, but now that I’ve seen it again, I think I’ve discovered the main thing that has been missing from my life up until this point. 

The room is all about extravagancy. Extravagant size, style, and execution. That bed is truly the hugest thing I’ve ever seen, and I love that despite such a huge bed, there is still an over-the-top amount of available floor space. It just makes me want to do a bunch of somersaults in a row. 

In all seriousness, the marble ceiling is something incredible to behold, especially when it’s next to that gorgeous fireplace. The whole design is brought to the upper echelon with those amazing landscape windows, and luxurious curtains for when night falls.  

5. The Simple and Sexy Master Bedroom

There’s something very cozy and very sexy about this room. Perhaps it’s because of the very luxurious textiles that we see, like the velvet throw or the inordinately fuzzy ottomans, or the super low furniture that just begs you to sit and have another glass of wine. 

We have a classic and lovely bed set up facing its very own golden fireplace, but the most special part of the room to me is the sitting area. The marriage of cream, black and brown colors make it so inviting, especially with the nice rounded shapes of all the furniture pieces.

I also love the organic feel of the faux finish, cream colored walls, especially when they’re combined with dark hardwood trim. The rounded doorway is unique and carries on with that organic feel. This is a very special room, and obviously, for adults only. 

6. The Rounded Edges Bedroom

Although I do wonder how often people actually use the sitting portions of their master bedrooms, you can’t deny that it’s a very fun opportunity to create a sitting area that is as comfy and cozy as possible. And of course, a surefire way is to give it its very own fireplace.

The bones of this room are my favorite part of the space, considering the absolutely gorgeous, super dark hardwood floors, especially in contrast to the gorgeous doorways that are not only rounded, but probably some of the widest entryways I’ve ever seen.

You truly can’t go wrong with a master bedroom that has its very own outdoor area set right off of it,  and I adore how the design here is really letting the basics speak for themselves. No need for sparkly accents, it has everything that it needs, and it’s perfect.

7. The Heavenly Home Master Bedroom 

I think that this room is my favorite in the collection. I may have said that before, but this one just speaks to me on so many levels. From the perfectly stained hardwood floors, the animal skin in front of a clay fireplace…

Vaulted ceilings with exposed beams are a rarity when it comes to master bedrooms, and it looks absolutely stunning in this space. It makes the room feel really expansive, especially since it doesn’t actually have as much floor space as the other designs that we’ve seen so far.

I simply adore the windows lining the entire wall, and I love even more how those windows lead you to your very own little private outdoor area. The beautiful leather director’s-style accent chairs are so fun yet so rich, enticing you to make read a couple more pages of your book before getting ready for the day.

8. The Rustic Dream Master Bedroom

I almost feel like I’m peeking in on someone’s private night in this photo, but I’m sure it gives you some ideas for next Valentine’s day… Lit candles aside, this room is exceptionally beautiful, simple, and downright sensual.

These are super antique wood floors, you can tell by the fact that some of the edges are lifted and they don’t have veneer on them. Look to the ceiling and witness those exposed beams, and you really start to get an idea of how old this home must be.

I adore how there is nothing in this room but things to lounge on. A very low to the ground intimate sofa, and a modestly sized bed that is hidden away by it’s own curtain, with matching curtains on the windows. If you’re looking to spice up your love life, this is the way to do it. Take notes!

9. The Black & White Bedroom 

I think it’s very interesting that if the bedding seen here weren’t brown, you may think that this photo was actually printed in black and white. This is a super contemporary design, using super low angles and corners making it feel hyper modern.

Sharp lines, sharp colors, and sharp contrasts may all be elements of colder designs, but this room doesn’t feel uninviting in the slightest. I think using a very rich brown for the bedspread helps with this, and also just how low all the furniture pieces are.

10. The Chic Country-Home Bedroom

The bright and airy bedroom is so incredibly inviting that I just want to dive through the screen, drink a cup of orange juice and take a nap! But the windows are so big and bright I might not even be able to fall asleep! Which isn’t actually a problem I would mind having!

We have nothing but soft surfaces, round edges, and cozy fabrics in this room. From the accent chairs to the ottoman to the bed, everything is a beautifully light color, highly padded, and simply draped with luxurious fabrics of different colors.

This room is super simple but super gorgeous, with warm wooden accents and turquoise for lovely pops of color. And of course, these are some seriously big and beautiful windows. No notes on this room, I would live here forever.

11. The View Room Bedroom

I pretty much have no words for this bedroom. But that’s literally while you’re here, so I’ll try to muster something up. Some descriptors for this room that is so gorgeous that it is hard to find the words to fathom the beauty.

Woof, that was dramatic. But look it at! Does this room even have a wall? Where is this? Can I visit? Can I stay forever? All of the aspects of this gorgeous room are centred around the fact that it bears witness to one of the most stunning views you could have from your bedroom.

We have simple furniture in a simply shaped room, but the effect of the room is anything but simple. It’s expansive, it’s cozy, it’s welcoming, it’s incredible, it’s inspiring, it’s both indoors and outdoors, and the contrast of colors against the sunset sky has fully changed my life.

12. The Padded Bedroom 

I think it’s really cool that it feels like the furniture was made custom to match the foundation of the room purposefully. That may be the case, but either way, it’s completely effective. Everything works in cohesion in this design.

We have various shades of beige which is anything but plain, especially when the use of different textures and fabrics is utilized so well. I really adore the use of pattern to bring a little spice to the space (it was completely necessary) and the beautiful bay windows letting the natural light in. Lovely.

13. The Mid Century Modern Bedroom 

I find this so be a spectacular bedroom design. I love anything that is even a little bit mid century modern, and this room is a lot mid century modern with teak wood lining the walls, camouflaging storage areas, and it’s used for the big beautiful bed frame as well.

I simply adore the color scheme, simply using different shades of wood with accents of cream. There is no better way to make a room feel exceptionally cozy. It’s also especially special to have a fireplace directly in front of your bed, and it’s even better when the rest of the walls are dedicated to floor to ceiling windows.

The decor is also impeccable, with Alexander Calder mobile hanging above the bed (I see you Calder), some very chic statues, and even a little office area with a really beautiful desk set up. I’d live and die in this bedroom and recommend it to all my friends, too.

14. The Extravagancy Master Bedroom 

Here we see an entire floor that is dedicated to the master bedroom, and all I can say is that is some serious big dick energy (sorry internet, if that’s too vulgar a term for this article). It’s not every day that you see a fireplace set directly in the centre of a room, and I gotta say I am a fan.

The room is nothing but luxurious, with perfectly clean carpets, golden curtains, a giant bed, a sitting area, and even a little office area that’s tucked behind the fireplace so that you can separate your work from relaxation area. A gorgeous space that anyone would be happy in.

15. The Cream & Cocoa Master Bedroom 

We’re finishing off this article very strong with a sublimely cozy, serene, and sexy bedroom design. I simply adore the fact that only shades of cream and brown are used in this design, as if gives such a warm effect while simultaneously being rather sensual.

We have an incredible California king bed set up with a silly amount of throw pillows, but hey, everybody likes what they like. I love the tiny amount of wallpaper used to act as a backsplash for the master bed and the super simple accents that we see all over the room.

The little nook area is probably my favorite part of this space, I love a nook. But I especially love a nook when it has a hollywood style vanity, a hilariously small sofa, but of course, I love it the most because it’s set right off of it’s very own balcony. Divine.
