Returning to the concept of a townhouse, this California residence was designed to meet the residentโs space needs and host his collection of contemporary photographs.
The architectural program was divided into 3 levels: the first with the social program, the second with the private and finally the third with a roof garden. The general concept of the house is based on living with the collection, which the owners started more than 30 years ago.
In the main hall, the natural light floods the spaces through a double-height skylight and a floor-to-ceiling window with a smoked film, making the collection a protagonist of interiors, while at night a museographic rail illuminates the perimeter creating a gallery environment.
The interior furniture was carefully designed so that the materials could generate chromatic contrasts and a harmonious and natural integration between space, art and daily use. The interior floors are European oak with a uniform tone and little beta, which cohabit with the walls in different shades of gray.
Passing the main hall is a terrace to the outside – as a complement to the public program – with a small room, dining room for outside, a fire pit, olive trees like vegetation and clear ceramic concrete floors that dialogue with the interior. The second level concentrates the private program where the same intentions were followed.
Finally, in the roof garden the program was extended to take advantage of every corner and make it playful with a jacuzzi, deck chairs, a complete grill with a pizza oven, a large dining room and an outdoor sofa with fire pit. To delimit the roof concrete masonry and tall plants were used as a living visual barrier.
Finally, the outer materials were defined to contrast, passing through a range of grays to different shades of wood.
