A gallery featuring contemporary and traditional living room designs with end tables.
Welcome to our gallery featuring a collection of beautiful living rooms that all have at least one end table.
It doesn’t matter if a living room is casual or formal, with a fireplace or without, every living room needs a place to set something down. Coffee tables help fulfill this need, but you can only reach it from one part of the room, and the real estate quickly gets cluttered.
To keep the room from feeling cluttered, designers place end tables in key places throughout the room. You’ll usually find an end table next to a sofa, with a second table next to an armchair across the room. These are great places to set a glass (with a coaster of course) if entertaining in a casual space, or for adding a lamp to brighten up the room at night.
End tables also serve as storage. The room above features an oak end table with a glass-front drawer and a lower cabinet. These are perfect places to store books, magazines, or electronics, and a convenient way to hide your clutter while still keeping your favorite things nearby.
End tables are less common in modern design, but you may still see a few in modern homes. These are usually glass-topped and small. In this collection, we feature contemporary and traditional living rooms that take full advantage of the function of end tables to create a comfortable, uncluttered, and functional interior.
We hope you’ll enjoy this fantastic living room gallery and get some great ideas for your own living room!
A spacious living room featuring one small, sleek end table to the right of the beige, nailhead trimmed sofa. The room’s two ottomans and one chair serve as additional seating for company. Three archways lead out of the room and into the adjacent dining room. The end table in this room serves a very simple purpose; it is a small place to set a table lamp.
An above view of a contemporary living room with a cowhide rug. This living room has three end tables; one dark wood, two white. Each table sits next to a different seating arrangement. The two white tables sit on one side of the sofa and love seat and are topped by modern lamps in chrome. The single dark wood end table is of a more traditional design, and serves as a barrier between the two chairs to the rear of the room. Behind it is a floor lamp (https://www.airmaniax.com).
A modestly sized living room with a traditionally patterned area rug and a large cherry wood coffee table between the sofa and loveseat. To the left of the loveseat is the light maple end table, with two small drawers to tuck away clutter like magazines or electronics. The light wood of the end table matches the chest of drawers on the far end of the room next to the fireplace.
A beautiful living room with hardwood floors polished to a reflective sheen and a stone accent wall along the rear of the view. A screened fireplace fits neatly into the stone wall. This design features two end tables. With the leather sofas in an L-formation around the coffee table, an end table in the corner and one behind a sofa act as a great place to store decor without infringing on the intimate sitting space.
A grand room with a cabin-themed area rug and a set of leather seating arranged around a coffee table in front of a screened stone fireplace. (Click here to see our special gallery of living rooms with fireplaces of all types.) This room has two matching wrought iron and wood end tables that complement the design of the centered coffee table. While these end tables don’t have any storage, they are a perfect place to set a glass while watching television, and are a perfect spot to place the branch-like lamps.
An open concept living room and kitchen with a dining room tucked into the rear corner. A single end table is in dark wood with a glass top, to match the curved coffee table. The table is used to display accents, like a small plant and a shell dish.
A small carpeted living room with a large coffee table in front of the enclosed fireplace. The coffee table is sectioned into three, with darker wood beneath. There are two hidden end tables in the space, one on either side of the right-most sofa. These tables hold small accents and table lamps.
A cavernous white living room with a huge enclosed gas fireplace. This room’s two separate seating areas have two end tables. While the grouping of four chairs near the fireplace have no need of table space, a cube table on one side of the sofa is a perfect place to set a candle. Between two beige and white zebra patterned chairs is another side table, this time in dark wood and topped with a glass vase full of flowers.
A bold white and blue living room with a beautiful crystal chandelier above the coffee table. The coffee table is actually two separate, narrower tables pushed together. They can be slid apart if needed to serve either side of the room. The room has one small additional end table, which has cut out mirrors on the tile that reflect light back into the room.
A beautiful contemporary living room featuring two small end tables, each with a different colored glass top. The bold color in the tables, along with the rust colored throw pillows, add life and color to this otherwise neutral living room. In the corner is a white kidney shaped sofa.
This living room has an interesting pattern of hardwood flooring between black and light wood. It has two coffee tables, one covered with a white cloth, and two smaller end tables. One end table is made to look like a small trunk with a tray top. The other is a small wrought iron table with just enough room for a lamp and a small vase.
A spacious living room with two large end tables on opposite sides of the room and a third smaller one tucked into the corner near the built-ins. The round end table is next to the screen and the larger square table is between the two upholstered chairs.
A swanky living room with velvet sofas and a stately fireplace. An enormous end table that matches the coffee table has fluted legs and a glass top. To the right is a large wet bar with an eat-in countertop. The tile accent wall behind the fireplace is a great contrast to the textured walls on either side.
A small, nautical themed living room in light blue and beige with two end tables on either side of the loveseat. Each table is host to a lamp and several small accent pieces. The dark wood matches on every piece of furniture.
A modestly sized living room with two round end tables. One table is between the two white armchairs, while the other is tucked into the back corner next to the curvy sofa. The tone of the wood is somewhat darker than the bow-legged coffee table.
A spacious and airy living room with a single large folding wood end table between a bench and the enormous sofa. A large stone fireplace separates the living room area from the dining area in the open-concept main living area. The room is divided into cozier sections by placing the furniture skillfully.
A casual and modern living room in blues and purple with a single small end table in a distressed white paint. A small shelf below the table top acts as open storage for a book or several magazines. A cavernous living room with exposed wooden beams across the ceiling and a number of bold patterns and colors throughout the textiles. A small screen separates the room from the wood-burning fireplace. There are two end tables in this design. One is hidden behind the striped loveseat, visible only by the blue lamp sitting on top, and the other is a carved structure sitting on the edge of the red area rug.

A small living room in white and beige with a splash of blue and black. On either side of the single-cushion sofa are glass-topped tables with matching square lamps and small accents. The design of the end tables perfectly matches the large coffee table in the center of the plush rug.
A formal living room with three end tables positioned so that every seat in the room has access to a table. Next to the white armchair is a small wooden stool repurposed as an end table. Between the white chair and loveseat is a larger end table in dark wood. A matching table sits between the sofa and the hide chair to the right.
A great room with cathedral ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows to the right that look out on the terrace.
