Welcome to our gallery featuring a collection of beautiful living rooms that all have at least one end table.
It doesn’t matter if a living room is casual or formal, with a fireplace or without; every living room needs a place to set something down. Coffee tables help fulfill this need, but you can only reach it from one part of the room, and the real estate quickly gets cluttered.
To keep the room from feeling cluttered, designers place end tables in key places throughout the room. You’ll usually find an end table next to a sofa, with a second table next to an armchair across the room. These are great places to set a glass (with a coaster, of course) if entertaining in a casual space or for adding a lamp to brighten up the room at night.
End tables also serve as storage. The room above features an oak end table with a glass-front drawer and a lower cabinet. These are perfect places to store books, magazines, or electronics and a convenient way to hide your clutter while still keeping your favorite things nearby.
End tables are less common in modern design, but you may still see a few in modern homes. These are usually glass-topped and small. In this collection, we feature contemporary and traditional living rooms that take full advantage of the function of end tables to create a comfortable, uncluttered, and functional interior.
We hope you’ll enjoy this fantastic living room gallery and get some great ideas for your own living room!
1. End Table with a Simple Task
A spacious living room featuring one small, sleek end table to the right of the beige, nailhead-trimmed sofa. The room’s two ottomans and one chair serve as additional seating for company. Three archways lead out of the room and into the adjacent dining room. The end table in this room serves a very simple purpose: a small place to set a table lamp.
2. End Tables Topped with Chrome Lamps
An above view of a contemporary living room with a cowhide rug. This living room has three end tables: dark wood and white. Each table sits next to a different seating arrangement. The two white tables sit on one side of the sofa and loveseat and are topped by modern lamps in chrome. The single dark wood end table is of a more traditional design and serves as a barrier between the two chairs to the rear of the room. Behind it is a floor lamp (https://www.airmaniax.com).
3. Light Maple End Table with Drawers for Storage
A modestly sized living room with a traditionally patterned area rug and a large cherry wood coffee table between the sofa and loveseat. To the left of the loveseat is the light maple accent table, with two small drawers to tuck away clutter like magazines or electronics. The light wood of the end table matches the chest of drawers at the far end of the room next to the fireplace.
4. End Tables Set Around Seating Area
A beautiful living room with hardwood floors polished to a reflective sheen and a stone accent wall along the rear of the view. A screened fireplace fits neatly into the stone wall. This design features two end tables. The leather sofas in an L-formation around the coffee table, an end table in the corner, and one behind a sofa are great places to store decor without infringing on the intimate sitting space.
5. Wrought Iron and Wood End Tables
A grand room with a cabin-themed area rug and a set of leather seating arranged around a coffee table in front of a screened stone fireplace. (Click here to see our special gallery of living rooms with fireplaces of all types.) This room has two matching wrought iron and wood end tables that complement the design of the centered coffee table. While these end tables don’t have any storage, they are a perfect place to set a glass while watching television and are an ideal spot to place the branch-like lamps.
6. Glass Top End Table Matches Coffee Table
An open-concept living room and kitchen with a dining room tucked into the rear corner. A single-end table is in dark wood with a glass top to match the curved coffee table. The table displays accents, like a small plant and a shell dish.
7. Two End Tables Bookend Sofa
A small carpeted living room with a large coffee table in front of the enclosed fireplace. The coffee table is sectioned into three, with darker wood beneath. There are two hidden end tables in the space, one on either side of the right-most sofa. These tables hold small accents and table lamps.
8. Two End Tables in the Shadows of Sofa and Chairs
A cavernous white living room with a massive enclosed gas fireplace. This room’s two separate seating areas have two accent tables. While the grouping of four chairs near the fireplace has no need for table space, a cube end table on one side of the sofa is a perfect place to set a candle. Another accent table is between two beige and white zebra patterned chairs, this time in dark wood and topped with a glass vase full of flowers.
9. Wood Block End Table Matches Coffee Table
A bold white and blue living room with a beautiful crystal chandelier above the coffee table. The coffee table is actually two separate, narrower tables pushed together. They can be slid apart if needed to serve either side of the room. The room has one small additional end table with cut-out mirrors on the tile that reflect light back into the room.
10. Two Contemporary End Tables with Different Glass Tops
A beautiful contemporary living room featuring two small accent end tables, each with a different colored glass top. The bold color in the tables and the rust-colored throw pillows add life and color to this otherwise neutral living room. In the corner is a white kidney-shaped sofa.
11. Two Mismatched End Tables Add Light and Storage
This living room has an interesting hardwood flooring pattern between black and light wood. It has two coffee tables, one covered with a white cloth, and two living room end tables. One end table is made to look like a small trunk with a tray top. The other is a small wrought iron table with just enough room for a lamp and a small vase.
12. Three End Tables Provide Plenty of Options
A spacious living room with two large end tables on opposite sides of the room and a third smaller one tucked into the corner near the built-ins. The round end table is next to the screen, and the larger square table is between the two upholstered chairs.
13. Large End Tables Match Coffee Table with Fluted Legs and Glass Tops
A swanky living room with velvet sofas and a stately fireplace. Enormous end tables that match the coffee table have fluted legs and glass tops. To the right is a large wet bar with an eat-in countertop. The tile accent wall behind the fireplace greatly contrasts the textured walls on either side.
14. End Tables Support Lamps and Accent Pieces
A small, nautical-themed living room in light blue and beige with two end tables on either side of the loveseat. Each table hosts a lamp and several small accent pieces — the dark wood matches every piece of furniture.
15. Lamps Set on Round End Tables
A modestly sized living room with two round end tables. One table is between the two white armchairs, while the other is tucked into the back corner beside the curvy sofa. The tone of the wood is somewhat darker than the bow-legged coffee table.
16. Folding Wood End Table in Open-Concept Great Room
A spacious and airy living room with a single large folding wood end table between a bench and the enormous sofa. A large stone fireplace separates the living room area from the dining area in the open-concept main living area. The room is divided into cozier sections by placing the furniture skillfully.
17. End Tables Feature Shelving for Books and Magazines
A casual and modern living room in blues and purple with a single small end table in distressed white paint. A small shelf below the tabletop is open storage for a book or several magazines. The velour purple ottoman is on wheels and serves as both a footrest and a coffee table. Be sure and visit our special gallery to see even more incredible living room furniture!
18. Decor Features Bold Patterns and Colors
A cavernous living room with exposed wooden beams across the ceiling and several bold patterns and colors throughout the textiles. A small screen separates the room from the wood-burning fireplace. There are two end tables in this design. One is hidden behind the striped loveseat, visible only by the blue lamp on top, and the other is a carved structure on the edge of the red area rug.

19. Elegant Glasstopped End Tables with Matching Lamps
A small living room in white and beige with a splash of blue and black. On either side of the single-cushion sofa are glass-topped tables with matching square lamps and trim accents. The design of the end tables perfectly fits the large coffee table in the center of the plush rug.
20. Three End Tables Provide Plenty of Support for Decor
A formal living room with three end tables is positioned so that every seat has access to a table. Next to the white armchair is a small wooden stool repurposed as an end table — a larger end table in dark wood between the white chair and loveseat. A matching table sits between the sofa and the hide chair to the right.
21. Sleek End Tables Complement Dark Wood Coffee Table
A great room with cathedral ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows to the right that looks out on the terrace. Matching end tables in sleek dark wood complement the squat dark wood coffee table in the center of the seating arrangement. A single glass-topped table sits between the two armchairs.

24. End Tables Feature Tray Tops
A casual living room in grays with a small home office area to the rear of the room. The side tables in this space are utterly simple in style, with thin legs and a tray top. The beige tops and dark legs perfectly match the large coffee table in front of the sectional.
