Much like the sun-dried tomato craze of the late 90’s, interior design experiences phases and trends just like food does. I remember once upon a time when every home I would visit as a kid was adorned with soft carpeting, but as I grew up, everyone became obsessed with tiles and hardwood floors.
While tiles and hardwood possess their own je ne sais quoi (like avocado toast for example), I think that the carpet can sometimes get a bad wrap! All you gotta do is not spill any tomato soup on it, or wine, or have any pets, or children, or fun.
Just kidding. Carpets are amazing for so many reasons. If you have little ones, carpets help prevent head bonks and also provide excellent traction for practicing cartwheels. I have a dog, and I have hardwood floors, but any time we visit a home that has a big rug, she immediately gets so excited and starts rolling around on her back with glee. I like to call this “carpet time.” I can’t help but feel that I’m depriving her of her best life by not having carpet!
So, if you’re like the masses and think that carpets are outdated or tacky, think again! This collection is surely going to prove me right and you wrong. Because these rooms are gorgeous, especially because of the sublime carpeting. Enjoy!!
1. The Sultry Living Room
Carpet & Walls: We’re starting off the collection with a room that is both elegant and stylish. Highly modern, this room starts with gorgeous industrial-inspired cement walls and dark gray carpeting. Dark gray is a great choice of color for a carpet both for its versatility, but it also is a safe choice in terms of not showing wear. The garage door of windows is also an excellent source of daylight.
Furniture: Simple furniture adorns the room in the form of a plush sofa with linen upholstery in a cloud color, which is fronted with a circular wooden coffee table. A credenza in the back of the room provides a lovely warm rustic element to the overall modern and cool-toned space.
Decor: I find the decoration in this room to be particularly lovely. We see such a nice collection of various ceramics and vases, a bouquet of dried flowers, and some artwork that has yet to be hung. While I have never understood the point of hanging up empty frames, it does leave the opportunity to fill them with whatever you want! Pressed flowers, family photos, magazine covers, whatever you want!
2. The Corner Living Room
Carpet & Walls: This adorable little corner living room doesn’t seem quite so little once you notice how huge this sectional sofa is! This simple but sultry living room starts with crisp cream walls and windows with black framing for a very stylish contrast. This is another example of a room using dark gray carpeting to ensure everything stays modern and sleek.
Furniture: Huge doesn’t even begin to describe this sectional sofa. The absolute perfect option if you’re planning on doing a ton of hosting or if you have a big family, this L-shaped sofa with soft dark gray upholstery, matches the carpet very nicely, while the super low and wide coffee table is the perfect counterpart to the set.
Decor: While so much of this room is modern, simple, and sleek, it’s nice to receive a pop of color and pattern with the yellow and plaid throw pillows.
3. The Midcentury Modern Pristine Living Room
Carpet & Walls: There is really no denying that this is an incredible room from top to bottom, floor to ceiling, wall to wall. This all starts with a very gentle, cloud-creamed carpet that covers the entire floor. Crisp white walls make way for a substantially gorgeous ceiling built from teak slats with recessed lighting. Absolutely stunning!
Furniture: The furniture choices in this room are impeccable in every way if you ask me. Starting with the seating, two caramel-colored leather couches look superbly comfortable with those plush cushions and deep seats.
I adore the modern accent chairs with white seating and black metal framing, and the rustic wooden bench somehow ties it all together. I also love the low-set nature of all of the pieces of furniture, including the wide coffee table and mirrored side table.
Decor: I like this room because it feels very lived in. It’s welcoming in that there are framed photos on the walls, potted plants, and a great collection of coffee table books (was that coined on that episode of Seinfeld? I think it was).
4. The Cozy Sailboat Living Room
Carpet & Walls: Tell me if I’m the only one who feels this way, but this room reminds me of the main hull of a sailboat. I have no idea if that’s the right terminology, but you know what I mean. This lovely room starts with cookie-colored carpets that have been topped with a light blue patterned area rug.
The foundation of this room is what really makes it special, with huge white framed bay windows, coffered white ceilings with recessed lighting, and a wood panel wall that has been painted a classic navy blue color. The fireplace facade also has some gorgeous stonework going on.
Furniture: Classic furniture keeps this room simple and lovely with a light gray sectional sofa that looks overwhelmingly plush and comfortable. The sofa with warm brown upholstery and gold metal framing adds a nice rustic element and offsets the lighter tones in the room.
Decor: This sweet living room setup is decorated so stylishly with its potted plants, patterned throw pillows, elegant curtains (ensuring that your curtains go straight from the floor to ceiling makes a room feel taller!), and golden accents all throughout the room.
5. The Teddy Bear Living Room
Carpets & Walls: This is such a bright and fresh room! This is another example of gray carpeting but the lighter tone of it really brings some lightness to the room, and it also means that you can use darker tones in the furniture and decor if that fits your fancy. Crisp white walls also allow you to play around with bright colors and patterns!
Furniture: I absolutely ADORE these couches, oh my goodness, Lord! I love how exaggerated the rounded shapes are, and the texture of the upholstery is exactly like a teddy bear. These sofas are like cartoon yellow labs coming to life.
Though the shapes are by no means subdued, the colors of the sofas are, so that allows for more fun in the other pieces! This rounded, striped coffee table is sweet and matches quite well with the yellow mustard accent chair.
Decor: With so many bold pieces of furniture, it’s important to be a bit more subdued with the decorations, and we get that here with an otherwise blank room but with bright, colorful, patterned curtains that match the chair and throw blanket so nicely!
6. The Japanese-Inspired Living Room
Carpets & Walls: This is a rather charming space with Japanese/midcentury modern-inspired elements. This lightly toned room starts with a carpet that’s reminiscent of the warm white sand on a tropical beach, walls that are adorned with squared wooden panels, and a beautiful white stone fireplace facade.
Furniture: This modern and sleek room hinges more on the classic side because of the style of furniture chosen for the space. A more rigid sofa sits across from oatmeal-colored accent chairs with hardwood legs, which match the ovular wooden coffee table with an ivory top.
Decor: I really appreciate rooms that are decorated like this one, with nothing but some beautiful framed artwork and big and happy plants. A lit gas fireplace is also a surefire way to make a room feel extra cozy.
7. The Bright Living Room
Carpets & Walls: Bright and fresh don’t even begin to describe this living room! I really appreciate all of the different elements of this room, starting with the perfectly cream-colored carpeting to match the crisp white walls and ceiling.
Of course, the most impressive thing about this room is the built-in shelving unit with cabinets, floating shelves, lighting, a floating television, and a gas fireplace below that. This is such a great way to remove the need for a ton of furniture in a room.
Furniture: With a room large like this, a very smart way to make it feel more intentional in its layout is to corner part of the space with an enormous L-shaped sofa! This one, in particular, is so so cute with its rose-colored velour upholstery, complete with two glass end tables, and a lovely low-set coffee table in white.
Decor: This sweet and simple room is decorated simply by the personal effects in the space, with various vases, photographs, and ceramics.
8. The Contrasted Living Room
Carpets & Walls: This room just makes me really happy. It feels like a beach house home but super elevated, and a place where ideally you wouldn’t want to get sand on the sofa or any Pina Colada rings on the dining table.
This stunning room starts with a clean white carpet (risky!) and warm white walls, while the back room boasts huge windows with elegant black framing and a ceiling with lightly stained wood ceilings. The combination of all of these elements creates a room that is superbly clean, fresh, and beautiful.
Furniture: This lounging room is stocked to the brim with comfortable-looking furniture. Starting with a huge sectional sofa with three different parts just welcomes you in with its deep seats and throw pillows. A cream-colored Eames chair feels like the perfect choice both in style and color scheme.
Decor: This room is perfectly decorated with colorful throw pillows, fresh flowers, big and happy potted plants, and big and beautiful framed prints on the walls.
9. The Sunroom Living Room
Carpets & Walls: I think that this room is probably my favorite in the whole collection. This gorgeous solarium starts with tan carpets, but the carpet almost doesn’t matter in this room because the wooden ceilings with an A-frame and incredible floor-to-ceiling windows in every direction. I would probably never leave this room if it were mine.
Furniture: This sunny living room features so much fun and funky furniture, starting with these very uniquely shaped accent chairs in delicate yellow with matching ottomans. I think that these sofas are really cool in that they are backless but come with added cushions for back support. Glass-topped coffee tables are scattered around the room.
Decor: I appreciate the fun pillows on the sofa, but I also appreciate the fact that there is absolutely nothing impeding or distracting from the incredible view on the other side of those windows.
10. The Shapely Living Room
Carpets & Walls: Finally, we have a room with a carpet that’s a little bit interesting! This space starts with a subdued gray but still interestingly patterned carpet with cream-colored walls and a white ceiling.
Furniture: The furniture is clearly the most special aspect of this room, with the sleek light gray sofa, beautiful green accent chair, two leather bench ottomans, and a clear glass coffee table. All of these elements are rather unique in their own ways, but they come together very nicely as a family.
Decor: Come to think of it, the decor is equally special in this room, with amazingly huge white and wavy vases, beautiful green satin curtains, gorgeous paintings on the walls, and a glorious glass chandelier with a firework shape to it. Who even knew that was possible for a lamp?
