About Studio

LAMAS is an architecture, design, and engineering studio based in Brasilia. The studio is led by the founder, civil engineer Ruy Lamas, and his son, architect Samuel Lamas, the company’s creative director.

When it was created in 1987, LAMAS operated exclusively in civil construction and, since 2010, the studio creates and develops architectural projects and authorial furniture. LAMAS seeks simplicity, usefulness, and solidity in its projects and products designed for the human experience today.

A glass house that draws inspiration from modernist architecture but innovates in terms of shape and detail to create an even lighter building was the subject of the project.

A delineation of the circulation areas is perceived in the delicate colonnaded structure that encircles the house, which also improves the distribution of experiences along its central axis.

For the living space, the proportion and similar size of the sofas connect them. The space between the sofas gives the people in each set privacy.

A closer inspection reveals small variations in the sofa designs as well as noticeable variations in the armchair designs. A rocking chair was placed in between the two sets in order to create a cozier relationship.

The hunt for a circular sofa without a primary usage point is established by this interpretation.

The placement of a table in a more private area enables the display of goods and provides assistance for various activities.

The walls of the room are white, and the flooring is hardwood.

Outside, there is a seating area with a wooden floor that complements the surrounding natural materials.

The project demanded a glass house, inspired by modernist houses, but which innovates in the design of the shape and in a detail that uses the current technology to build an even lighter structure. The choice to make a suspended house refers to the grandellancy of the Palaces of Brazil and the transparency of the house puts the visitor floating in a garden.

The delicate colonnaded structure that surrounds the house is read as a delimitation to the circulation spaces and strengthens the distribution of experiences along its central axis. For the hall destined to be, we opted for the creation of a single rectangular environment. We have at each end of this rectangle a large sofa with three armchairs.

The distance between the sofas provides privacy to the people in each set, while choosing a rug for the living environment, the proportion and similar size of the sofas connect them. A closer look notices subtle differences in the design of the sofas and expressive differences between the armchairs. Between the two sets, we insert a rocking chair to establish a more relaxed connection.

The circular environment between the rooms and the balcony, delimited by the curtain, is felt as the moment of rotation of the house and as a point of choice and meeting. This interpretation establishes the search for a circular sofa that does not choose a main point of use. The insertion of a table in a more reserved space allows the presentation of products and support for various events.

Materials, colors, and furniture dialogue with the lightness and transparency of the house. The original pieces of the main Brazilian and international designers guarantee the cosmopolitan atmosphere space. The Brazilianness incorporated in the objects is reinforced by the colors and textures of the various natural coatings: sofas in leather and silk weft, linen curtains, sisal carpet, wool armchairs, and cotton.
