I hate to say it, but I’m a stickler when it comes to seating.
I don’t like benches, stools, logs, backless chairs of any kind.
I like overstuffed, big furniture that I can sink into and relax.
That’s why I spent a fortune on my camping chair that goes with me to the beach or anywhere I’ll be sitting outside. It’s also why we have large plastic Adirondack designed chairs in our yard.
Interestingly, many people who build fire pits in their yard incorporate some sort of bench seating, which is good for accommodating a lot of people and saves the hassle of moving chairs to the area, but it’s not great for comfort.
But my preferences are just that… mine. That’s why this collection includes all types of fire pit seating ideas.
I organized this into DIY fire pit seating ideas, patio furniture, camping furniture and wrap it up with some unique seating that’s not all that common.
Not my favorite seat, but in a pinch you can cut up a bunch of logs and use them for seating.
Or lay large logs on the side for log benches to be used around a fire.
Rocks and Boulders
While not terribly comfortable, I love the look of these large flat-topped boulders used as seating around a patio fire pit.
If you have a multi-level patio you can use the stairs as a place to sit around a fire pit.

Here are some lovely and comfortable wood patio chairs around a fire pit table. This is a good arrangement for a smaller patio.
We have these faux plastic Adirondack chairs in our yard. They’re inexpensive and comfortable. These are a great seating options for around a fire pit.
For authentic seating, you can splurge on real Adirondack chairs and place them around a fire pit like this photo example. Talk about a beautiful and inviting setting.
This is my kind of fire pit seating – large overstuffed patio armchairs with ample space around fire pit on a large patio.
I love this small round patio with fire pit next to a stunning backyard pool. The wicker chairs have cushions and plenty of space creating a very comfortable sitting area around the fire pit. I could sit there for hours.
Another example of multiple patio chairs with three small side tables around a large patio fire pit. The multiple side tables are a nice touch – everyone has a place to put their drinks, devices, etc.

While you could sit on inflatable camping furniture, it might not be the best option if a stray spark strikes it… that’s the end of your seat. Below we set out the different types of seating for campfire.

I’m a big fan of gravity chairs. If you can haul them along camping, do so. These are very comfortable.
If you need lots of campfire seating, here’s a three-person folding camping sofa.
