Katie Martinez Design is an interior design practice based in San Francisco, focusing on comprehensive interior design, furniture and accessory selection, and most everything in between. With this project, the aim was to craft an elegant and sophisticated interior that is equally comfortable and simple.
An overarching theme here is clean, calm, and natural backdrops, punctuated with surprising combinations of art, texture, and color.
The designer wanted the interior to be equally unique and meaningful. The most beautiful rooms are those that possess character, personality, and are truly reflective of their owner, and this home is a perfect example of that principle. There are several key details to keep an eye on as you peruse this gallery, including the spare use of marble and stone, high contrast color pairings, and the liberal placement of art and other personalized touches.
The blending of traditional materials with progressive, inventive furniture and textures makes for a truly unique interior design. The rich mixture of detail and spare elegance makes this home feel timeless.
The open-plan living room includes interesting furniture pieces, like this folding wood and wicker chair, and the slatted wood media cabinet at right.
Bright beige sofa and light hued area rug help lighten the space, contrasting with a minimalist, dark coffee table. Modern floor lamp in back adds another idiosyncratic touch.

White cabinetry gives way to a sleek marble countertop and matching backsplash, with glass door cabinetry above offering a transparent look that expands the visual detail of the kitchen.
Here we see a wide angle of the entire kitchen and living room space, highlighting the array of varying furniture styles and colors. The unifying theme appears to be use of natural materials, from wood and rattan to copper and marble.

At the top of the stairs, we get a close look at the rich, worn hardwood flooring. The deep tone contrasts perfectly with bright white walls.
With table set, the deep wood tone of the kitchen table is highlighted between bright colors.
The foyer features an immaculate upright piano, set with arty pieces beneath the curved staircase.
The bedroom continues the high contrast theme, with white sheets and drapes over the dark hardwood flooring. A simple two-tiered circular bedside table stands beneath the large window.
An old fashioned mirror stands leaning agains a wall in the bedroom, perfectly illustrating the personalized style of this home.
Bookended by full height cabinetry in white, the bathroom entrance opens to reveal pristine white vanity over more of the dark hardwood flooring.
