When designing Casa Sombrero, we sought to privilege the social/leisure area from the very beginning, as it is a summer residence. Axis to the right of the entrance, to the south, and three different blocks with the same simple treatment and conventional structure of cast-in-place concrete organize the spatiality of the project.
The first block, at the entrance, houses garages, service area and kitchen, and the other two have the intimate area, taking advantage of the mandatory area left vacant to create more reserved external areas.
The main space of the house, between the aforementioned blocks, received different treatment, emphasising the leisure propensity of the residence. For these areas we use a structural strategy that invests a little in the usual logic of the pillar x beam x slab system.
We positioned the pillars, made of exposed concrete, outside the limits of coverage and buildings. These pillars, taller than the supporting blocks, receive metallic pieces in the upper portion that connect with apparent metallic beams that cross the ground transversally.
These beams support, through thin tie rods, covers made of light material, independent of each other, in addition to the coverage of the main axis, which is lower than the others.
With this strategy, we guarantee enormous transparency and lightness for the social and leisure spaces, fully integrating them with the surrounding gardens, designed by landscape designer Juliana Freitas. The swimming pool is located around the portion.
