Rustic modern house plans isn’t really a house style
Strictly speaking, modern houses are the opposite of rustic and vice versa. And yet, based on our research, many people search for “rustic modern house plans”. We decided to publish a collection of what we consider to fit the bill doing our best to offer up floor plans and layouts that meet the intention of what people are looking for.
Rustic design first originated in the 19th century. Modern rustic house plans still incorporate elements deriving from wood, stone, and clay, and they may have a cozy living room feel that includes a fireplace.
What are the primary features of modern rustic homes?
Modern rustic house plans combine the best of both worlds – the rustic charm of a traditional home with the amenities of a modern one. They usually have an open floor plan that makes them feel spacious and inviting, for instance. Modern rustic houses also feature large windows that let in plenty of natural light, and they may have exposed beams and distressed trims that add to the rustic feel.
However, interiors in many contemporary homes have a light-colored, neutral and monochrome color scheme that also includes gourmet kitchens, luxurious bathrooms, and state-of-the-art media rooms.
How is modern rustic different from traditional rustic?
Modern rustic home plans seem to allow more sunlight into them than traditional rustic homes. They also reflect bright or neutral walls and floors. However, modern homes typically embrace earth colors and rough textures in the dressers, tables, nightstands, shelves and other furniture flooring and trims.
In addition, they incorporate natural stone surfaces and polished marble countertops. Traditional homes usually have a more classic look to them, while modern homes often have a sleeker, more minimalist look. The homes made from traditional rustic plans also typically have ornate details, such as intricate crown moldings and wainscoting.
In addition to the light-colored walls found inside modern homes, their contemporary interiors of them also include stainless-steel appliances and thin, minimalist overhead lighting. Some homes may also have hanging lamps, but they usually only contain a few bulbs instead of several sets of small bulbs within a bulky crystal chandelier. Some modern rustic homes may have splashes of color here and there too, or contrast bright-colored accessories against the mostly neutral backgrounds.
Even in this case, the interior usually appears bright and more reflective than inside a traditional rustic house that has a darker indoor aura.
What are the similarities of traditional and modern rustic homes?
Some modern rustic homes may still have log siding on the exteriors or A-frame roofs. They might even still have slate stone appearing indoors, and the same may apply to interior walls having logs like in traditional homes. However, the modern interiors may only use these natural materials as an accent wall or even just in corners or as part of wall or door trims.
You probably would not see an entire modern rustic home lined inside with logs, for instance. Both traditional and modern homes might have a patio or a balcony, however. They also may have a fireplace that has a stone mantel and print area rugs, or they might have elements of animal or faux animal skin.
What about eco-friendly features?
Some modern rustic home designs might have solar panels on the roof connected to battery storage. Contemporary homes may also have a vehicle charger, and home siding or frames may come from recycled materials. Windows often come with insulation layers that keep indoor climates at the right temperature too.
