Photo gallery featuring a contemporary home renovation with outdoor courtyard by Canny Contemporary Architects.
Welcome to our gallery focusing on the Kew 3 home renovation project by Canny.
While designing this heritage house extension, Canny needed to ensure that the new construction blended seamlessly with the old. The clients wanted to maintain the beautiful traditional aesthetic of the front of the home, preserving that half and demolishing the rest.
First, the dated surfaces on the facade were repainted, breathing in new life while maintaining consistent coloring.
The slate roof and veranda ceiling were restored complete the external face lift. Canny repainted the formerly dark wood paneled sitting, entry, and bedrooms in the front of the home to brighten the space, adding a crystalline chandelier to complete the wow factor.
The project involved reconfiguring the home with a freshly modern addition to create a bold new space, including two bathrooms, a primary suite, kitchen, butler’s pantry, living area, laundry, and garage.
A major exterior component was added: a stylish outdoor entertaining space with a fully tiled, solar heated lap pool, designed as a great outlook from the kitchen, living, and bedroom spaces.
We will let the following quote speak for itself:
“The connectivity between the indoors and outdoors is a key feature of the home as is the feature timber beams over the alfresco area that will one day be covered with lush vines. Imagine how divine that will look!” – Janine, Interior Designer
The wide open kitchen and living room space wraps around the new pool and patio courtyard-type area, seen through a bold swath of floor to ceiling glass panels. The large black countertop island seen at right defines the kitchen area.
With a closer view, we see the high contrast mixture of sleek white cabinetry and black countertops defining the look of the kitchen, over the beige tile flooring shared by the entire central open space. Dark tile backsplash can be seen at right.
The living room features this massive stone surround fireplace over a dark wood room-wide shelving unit. Low slung windows allow for subtle views to the outdoors.
Moving away from the kitchen, we see a laundry space decked out with floor to ceiling black wood cabinetry and a stainless steel countertop holding large scale sink. Walk-in storage can be seen at left.
The main entryway in the older section of the home features bright, newly white painted walls over the rich hardwood flooring. A stained glass window stands counterpart to the dark wood front door.
Stepping back into the main hall, we see the spectacular chandelier hanging overhead, defining an elegance throughout the space. White walls and glass panel doors contrast with the rich natural tones of the flooring.
The central hall space leads toward the living and private areas of the home, with a grand staircase at center, as well as directly out onto the patio at left.
A large walk-in closet leading to the primary bath is flanked by floor to ceiling natural wood cabinetry.
The primary bath is a stunning achievement, featuring high contrast between dark marble flooring, countertops, and walls, and the white vanity structure, vessel sinks, and unique oblong pedestal tub. Featuring a glass enclosure shower and large format window overlooking the garden, this is a boldly realized space.
A secondary bathroom features a more subtle mixture of neutral grey tile and white, with an array of seamless mirrors over the floating vanity at right.
With a wide view of the brand new rear outdoor space, we see the expansive patio with natural wood exposed beams overhead, divided from the pool by seamless glass fencing. Stone wall to the right holds a floating countertop with built in grill and sink.
