I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I am obsessed with Cottagecore. If I had a quilt, I’d hang it on the wall; if I had a mallard, I’d probably get ten more; and if I had drapes, they would be pink and yellow plaid drapes. To me, cottage core is timeless, and it will never fail to make a room feel cozy.
Nowadays, cottage-inspired interiors have moved away from doilies and floral wallpaper and more towards exposed brick and wood ceiling beams, stone fireplaces and rustic coffee tables, and organic textiles and decorations.
This collection of cottage-style living rooms has a little something for everyone. We have older designs that hold close to those cozy cottage roots and newer designs that provide elevated versions of what we hold most nostalgically dear. Hopefully, you can find all of the inspiration you need – new or old – to help you with your very own home renovation projects!
1. The Beach Cottage Entertainment Room
Floors & Walls: We’re starting out this lovely collection with a living room that feels like the perfect place to hang out and watch a rom-com after a full day of lying on the dock and fooling around on a paddle boat. This bright and sunny entertainment room has everything to keep you entertained on your family vacations.
This beautiful room starts with multi-colored stain for the wood floors, while the rest of the features have been painted a warm white color, which includes the ceiling, window frames, and built-in shelving beside the white stone fireplace facade.
Furniture: This monochromatic room is so bright and airy, and that’s thanks to the dedication to light features. This starts with a living room set complete with a white leather couch with two matching white leather lounging chairs. The cushion shape of this furniture reminds me of cartoon marshmallows. White accent tables take the monochromatic theme even further.
Decor: This room is decorated in the precise way that I love: simply with your own personal belongings. Having a huge library does a great job of providing interest and a conversation starter, and all of the colorful colors of the book covers are what bring color to the room! We get life from the various happy potted plants around the room, along with some lovely framed photographs and prints around the room. Stunning!

2. The Suburban Cozy Home
Floors & Walls: Here, we have a very sweet, quaint, cozy, and stylish room that starts with dark hardwood floors and wooden walls that have been painted white to bring a fresh new look to the space. The same goes for the ceiling, though I would have loved to see what kind of wood lies underneath!
Furniture: This sweet little room is furnished with nothing but the most plush furniture: a chocolate leather sofa and matching lounge chair, as well as an extra lounge chair with a rather charming cream and brown upholstery. The rustic coffee table gives us that cottagecore style.
Decor: Patterned pillows, a distressed rug, a leafless birch branch, and a bucket full of firewood all provide that cozy aspect I always look for in a living room, while a lovely hanging chandelier and a beautiful oil painting hanging over the fireplace bring a touch of elegance.
This wonderful living room design is thanks to Architectural Designs, and you can see the rest of the home design here.
3. The Simple Getaway Home Living Room
Floors & Walls: Okay, now this is slightly off-topic, but the layout of this room is identical to the living room set of Family Guy, but obviously way nicer and is in reality instead of on a crudely animated show. Moving on.
This lovely cottage decor starts with new wood floors with a light gray stain, which guides us up towards a very light gray wall with white trim. Ceilings contain recessed lighting, and a gas fireplace is set directly into the wall. This is clearly a very new development!
Furniture: I particularly like the furniture choices in this room. A stunning sofa complete with shining metal framing and dark blue, slightly textured upholstery pairs nicely with a simple white coffee table, a warm wooden bench below the window, and a fantastic wooden framed chair in the corner with cowhide upholstery.
Decor: Rustic elements really completes the look of this room, found in a wooden floating shelf with a rounded wood framed mirror, as well as a vase of ornamental grass and a bowl of pinecones. How kitschy!
This sweet living room design is thanks to Redfin, and you can see the rest of the home design right here.
4. The Happy Beach Town Cottage Living Room
Floors & Walls: This is such a sweet living room to me. I imagine my feet covered in sand while I take a nap on that wildly plush-looking sofa. Warm hardwood floors contrast against white walls and big wide windows, while an A framed ceiling exposes a beautiful hardwood support beam. That’s where the cottage inspo really comes in.
Furniture: In a smaller room, sometimes you have to be a bit more deliberate with your furniture choices. Choosing a couch that is super deep and comfortable is a great way to make sure that it still feels like a very livable room. Chocolate-colored wood has been used for this lovely coffee table (which doubles as a shelving unit), and matching accent chairs bring it all together. I also am a huge fan of that cute little distressed hutch! I bet there’s a rad DVD collection in there.
Decor: The way that this living room is decorated in a coastal style kind of lets me know where it’s located, and my assumption is that we’re close to the beach. I get this from the bamboo shades, the wicker lampshade, the bowl of shells on the coffee table, and most obviously, the video of the surfer!
This beautiful living room has been sourced from Redfin, and you can see the rest of the home design here.
5. The Alpine Vacation Home Living Room
Floors & Walls: Very Scandinavian inspired, this beautiful living space feels like the place you go when you need to decompress. No screens allowed – just books, pencil crayons, a yoga mat, and a whole bunch of hot cocoa. This stunningly serene room starts with light hardwood floors and barely any white walls. On every wall, we get gorgeous and huge windows with black framing – nothing is impeding your view.
Furniture: Very minimally furnished; I have a feeling that this is both a living room and a dining room. I adore the idea of just having one huge sofa with very deep seating and a low back – anyone could be comfortable in that. For the dining table, we have a low coffee table with some charcoal pillows for sitting.
Decor: While the space isn’t currently decorated, it really allows you to play around with what you would imagine for cottage-style living room ideas! If it were me, I’d put a super fuzzy rug in the middle of the room, a bunch of plants, and a very low credenza where I could hold all of my board games.
This amazing living room has been designed by Jean Verville architecte, and you can see the rest of the home design right here.
6. The Treehouse Living Room
Floors & Walls: This bright and sunny living room would be a happy place to spend your getaway days with loved ones. The room starts with sandy light wooden floors and nothing but white walls with black window framing. This is a modern way to approach a room and a stylish one at that!
Furniture: A wonderfully plush sectional sofa sits across from two lounge chairs with dark hardwood framing and plush white cushions. Circular accent tables and circular nesting coffee tables add a differing shape concept with so many sharp corners in the room.
Decor: I like the way that this room is decorated: no distractions. We get a light gray fuzzy rug for a bit of texture and a bright purple orchid for a splash of color, but otherwise, all that we see are stacks of books. This room is clearly meant for relaxing.
This lovely room is thanks to Axis Mundi, and you can see the rest of the home here!
7. The Mountain Lodge Living Room
Floors & Walls: This room takes spa living to a whole other level. The only thing in the way of making you feel relaxed in this room is your own mind. Beautiful sand-colored floors are met with white walls and enormous squared windows revealing a gloomy-looking day outside. I love a home that is dedicated to revealing as much of the landscape as possible.
Furniture: Nearly nothing in here but two beautiful reclining chairs (that almost look like patio chairs) topped with very comfortable-looking white cushions and a matching ottoman. A minimal coffee table is set off to the side. I may be wrong, but I think the feature in the bottom left corner of the room is a fireplace, which would completely send me over the edge.
Decor: Nothing but a little candle has been added to this room, but I think that’s the way that it should stay. All I want in this room is a view.
This serene living space design is thanks to Kolman Boye Architects, and you can see the rest of the home here.
8. The Riverside Lounge Living Room
Floors & Walls: Now, this room just makes me so supremely happy. It looks like the building has been constructed to hang over a wide river, almost turning this beautiful home into a bridge. How unique and special! This glorious room starts with beautiful hardwood floors and ceilings and nothing but windows in every other direction. This is the perfect combination, in my opinion.
Furniture: I adore the furniture choices in this cottage decor. A light brown armless sofa with super deep seats faces the window, while a black leather Eames chair with a corresponding triangular coffee table sits in front of the window. A minimal dining set with a wooden table and six black chairs separates the living room from the outdoor balcony area. Just heavenly.
Decor: This impeccable room is very minimally decorated, which is the way that it should be for a room so gorgeous. All we have is a caribou head as wall decor (I could do without it, honestly, but I do understand the sentiment), a collection of candles, and some extra throw pillows for the sofa.
This perfect riverside living room design is thanks to Kariouk Associates, and you can take a gander at the rest of the gorgeous home design right here.

9. The Midcentury Modern Lounge
Floors & Walls: Wow! I didn’t even realize that all of the rooms we’ve seen so far (though very lovely) have been missing a bit of fun to them! This room is so fun! Not only because of its use of color, but because of its decorating as well.
This beautiful room starts with modern cement flooring, which leads us toward white walls. A particularly interesting feature in the room is this glorious dark hardwood fireplace facade which extends across the ceiling, creating a rather dramatic and wonderful contrast.
Furniture: Simply excellent furniture choices in this room, ranging from a simple linen lounge chair, a wide and comfortable sofa with light brown upholstery, all the way to my favorite pieces: these two midcentury modern accent chairs with gorgeous angular wood framing and pistachio green upholstery. I also adore the variety of surface choices in the room, from a charcoal stone block, and a clawfoot coffee table to a white marble accent table.
Decor: I’m in love with all of the different shades of green in this room. Driven by the pistachio chairs, we get gorgeous green in the light matcha area rug, and the incredible green stone facade around the fireplace. Clearly, the star of the show is this wonderful diptych featuring a diver set in bold colors. Amazing!
This wonderfully fun living room is thanks to Boom Town, and you can check out the rest of the home design right here.
10. The Country Den Living Room
Floors & Walls: Now, this is a room that makes me want to run away from my life forever, live in the woods in this cottage and spend the rest of my days doing crosswords and baking pies. This rustic living room is gorgeous to me, and it all starts with brick floors which is something that I’ve never seen before. The house has dedicated itself to keeping the framing exposed, which we see in support beams and beams across the entire ceiling. Just gorgeous.
Furniture: The furniture in this room really entices you to sit down and stay awhile. Two cream colors sofas complete with oodles of throw pillows are set in front of a brick fireplace. Though very classic sofa styles, you can never argue that classic can’t stand the test of time.
Decor: This beautiful living room doesn’t need too much in order to be beautiful. The only extra accents we get are in the cream-colored curtains and splashes of green plant life scattered around the house. This home is heaven to me.
11. The Home-Away-From-Home Living Room
Floors & Walls: This simple and modern living room interior design starts with light floors and white walls. We receive a bit of interest in the angular part of the ceiling that has been adorned with wooden beams. This helps warm up the room and just so happens to match the wooden framing of the windows perfectly. I also appreciate how we get a splash of an accent color with a blue-painted door.
Furniture: This space is very minimally furnished with a light gray sofa and a midcentury modern-inspired chair made from teak-looking wood. A clear coffee table sits in the middle of the room, which really helps makes it feel expansive.
Decor: This room has no decoration but a sweet blanket that matches the blue of the front door, and a couple of potted plants for a splash of life. Despite the minimalism, the room still feels rather complete, don’t you think?
12. The Beautiful Bones Living Room
Floors & Walls: There’s just something very glorious about this room to me. I’m always fascinated with older homes and the incredible additions and details that people would incorporate into the structure, and this has to be one of my favorites.
A gorgeous centerpiece features a red tile-surrounded fireplace, with surrounding teak built-in shelves and, my favorite part, the stunning stained glass above the fireplace mantle. Hardwood floors are lovely, white walls are standard, and exposed wooden beams are appreciated.
Furniture: While the accent chairs in the room are very traditional, they really allow the unique features in the room to shine. The coffee table we see here with boomerang-style framing and a clear glass top, is really the star of the show for me.
Decor: I very much appreciate the homey decor in this room, from the personal effects on the shelves to the beautiful framed print on the mantle, the happy plant in the corner, and the perfect orchid on my favorite coffee table I’ve ever seen — a wonderful space.
This glorious living room design is thanks to Trulia.
13. The Serene Sitting Space
Floors & Walls: All that we really see in this room are features of wood and features of white, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. This concept is a surefire way to make a room feel open and airy but cozy and inviting at the same time.
This stunning space starts with a fun geometric area rug that covers the entire floor and wooden paneled walls that have been painted white.
Furniture: There are so many special furniture pieces in this room! From the simple white sofa with deep seats, the chunky, live edge coffee table, the gorgeous wicker chair (very MCM), the glorious accent tables on either side of the sofa, the nesting tables, and the high white ottoman. Everything goes together so nicely that I can hardly take it!
Decor: This room is so beautiful because of its main features that nothing really needs to be vamped up with decoration. Simple table lamps , I’m sure, create a wonderful ambiance in the evening, and a beautiful framed photograph above the sofa adds a unique image.
14. The Adorable A-Frame Living Room
Floors & Walls: Don’t you find this living room to be completely darling? This super classic and traditional room just makes you feel like you’re in a suburban dreamland. Very warmly stained wood starts us off, while the home, which was originally all wood panels, has been painted white. We still get a dramatic effect thanks to the gorgeous A-frame with exposed beams.
Furniture: This super beachy living room design is complete thanks to this matching sofa and chair, which are equal parts plush, soft, and cushy. I mean, just look at them. They’re like butter melting on a stack of pancakes. I adore the striped ottoman, and I know you noticed the vintage wooden radio in the corner. What a nice touch!
Decor: Full of rustic charm, this room just feels happy, and that’s thanks to the pastel-colored throw pillows, the funky-shaped grandfather clock, and the exceptionally bright and lovely painting of the oceanside on the back wall. I just adore this room.
This lovely living room design is thanks to Primarywork.
15. The Sunny Sunroom
Floors & Walls: We’re finishing off this collection with a room that is particularly serene. I adore spaces that can successfully join outdoor spaces with indoor spaces, and this one has been done so beautifully. This marriage starts with gorgeously light hardwood floorsand white walls that end in a character A-frame ceiling. A fireplace and shelves have been built right into the side of the room.
Furniture: Nothing but the comfiest of furniture is allowed in this room, and we get that with this glorious furniture set comprised of super plush-looking cushions set on a sofa and matching lounge chairs. A sweet little tray coffee table in cream sits in between them all.
Decor: This simple room is stunning in that fact. Bits of life are brought in from outside in the form of potted plants, white framed photos , and ceramics adorning the shelving, bringing that personal aspect that always makes a room feel particularly inviting.
This bright living room design is thanks to HOBBS INC.
