You’ve probably seen the trend of weirdly shaped vases and candleholders sweeping the Internet these days. This arguably millennial style is definitely interesting, but most of the products available for purchase are pretty expensive. And most millennials probably don’t have a few hundred dollars to spend on a simple vase. Well, you’re in luck, because the Buzzfeed Nifty YouTube channel has an awesome short for you to check out.
This video shows a white, bubble-shaped vase on Amazon that costs almost $200. Luckily, the DIYer here got creative and came up with an easy and inexpensive way to recreate the vase at a fraction of the price. And while it’s not made of ceramic or something heavier, the aesthetic is basically the same. First, she found a spray bottle at Dollar Tree that had a very similar “stacked bubble shape” and removed the spray nozzle.

The Simple Process
Once the nozzle or sprayer portion of the plastic bottle was gone, the next step was to use a box cutter knife to cut the raised rim and remove it from the top. This part of the process ensures that it has a smooth, even look whenever you add flowers or plants.
She then buffed the entire bottle with sandpaper to help ensure that the paint would stick (and also to ensure that the top cut-off portion was smooth). The next step was to spray paint the bottle so that it looked more modern and refined. In this case, the YouTuber chose a beautiful almond color which is definitely on-trend right now (hello, neutrals).
After the almond-colored paint dried, she added a second coat of stone-textured spray paint to give it a more natural look. After this layer dried, she added a cute plant and placed her new DIY vase on a stack of books.

While I am not personally a huge fan of this new vase and candleholder trend, this little DIY project is certainly something I never would have thought to do on my own. And I have to say that I think it came out really nice, and heck-I might even give it a whirl myself some time.
