An oceanfront compound in Nova Scotia consisting of three buildings in four acres of land with 440 feet of shoreline is now on the market priced at $1.1 million.

The three buildings include the main residence with great room, open kitchen, a fireplace, and wide expanses of glass with the ocean views. On either side of the main residence are two cottages. One is the master suite with a luxury bath, two closets, a dressing area, and a study. The second cottage has two bedrooms, each with its own entrance and en suite bath.

When a man’s business is to “assist those who own or control rural landholdings in preserving, enhancing, or planning alternative uses for the properties in their charge,” one can only imagine what an entrepreneur of this vision creates for his own family. Such is the case of Robert McKee, whose firm, Field Sports Concepts, Ltd., is located in Charlottesville, Virginia and Austin, Texas.

While looking for a summer getaway location to escape the summer heat, the McKees discovered a very special piece of oceanfront land in Nova Scotia that jutted out into the water with huge white glacial boulders and untouched forest. It only took an instant for the couple to envision the possibility of creating a natural compound for the family with the smallest possible impact on the environment.

They bought the four acres with its 440 feet of shorefront and started planning their compound. Though very much attached to the mainland and only minutes from beaches, oceanfront dining, golf and the historic village of Liverpool with its art and music festivals, McKee’s land had the privacy of its own island. For fresh lobster and fish, it is only a five-minute walk to the Hunts Point wharf. Wildlife paths meander along the shore into the woods, adding to the back-to-nature sensibility.

The McKees started building using much of the material from their land. Rock was blasted to make steps, paths, main fireplace, terrace with outdoor fireplace, and foundations. Three structures were built providing private space for members of the family and their guests. Three buildings include the main residence with great room, open kitchen with granite countertops, a fireplace built from rock quarried on-site and wide expanses of glass with dramatic views of the ocean pounding on boulders.

On either side of the main residence are two cottages. One is the master suite with a luxury bath, two closets, a dressing area, and a study. The second cottage has two bedrooms, each with its own entrance and en suite bath giving guests a sense of privacy and freedom.
