I grew up with a mom who loved to DIY anything she could get her hands on. Sometimes she would create something spectacular and other times it was just interesting. One thing I can agree on is that whatever she did, it was always inventive and most certainly ignited creativity in me. I get a similar feeling when I fall down the rabbit hole of watching these DIY TikTok videos. This project is so simple yet incredibly clever, you’ll kick yourself for not thinking of it first.

This IKEA hack is budget-friendly and ridiculously resourceful. Can you imagine a $35 table? Truthfully, it is one of the best deals I’ve seen yet. I have to say, I’m a bit relieved that the project only consists of two items, and there is no difficult IKEA cabinet to assemble first. The audience will thank you. I love the cost-effective aspect of this hack and I am ecstatic that every item and detail is labeled. You know exactly where you can buy the pieces from and how much the price will be. I won’t tell you how many videos I watch that don’t have items labeled, leaving you empty-handed and asking the TikTok’er a dozen questions in the comment box. I also appreciate that she showed the audience a vignette displaying how she uses it in her home. An important aspect to consider when making these videos is because the message seems complete.
Bohemian style is still trending strongly in the design world and beyond. I think this table fits in perfectly well with that design aesthetic. When I look at the finished table, I see different ideas and opportunities for its use. I would love to see part two of this video, showcasing some of the ideas I’m listing below.
If you live in a small space, this piece can be utilized as a cocktail or coffee table addition. If space isn’t an issue, you can create two tables and move them around for guests. Another option would be to paint the table (if you want to inject color) because it completely changes the vibe. Some people gawk at the thought of painting wood, but because of the cost, I wouldn’t hesitate. Another, the more labor-intensive idea would be to upholster the top wood part before attaching it, which creates an ottoman. You can also find alternative objects like a large metal Christmas tree base, and attach the wood top which creates a completely different design aesthetic. I feel like the opportunities are limitless and she tapped into an idea that has many layers. Of course, these are all suggestions that I think would be fun to watch this TikTok’er create. She seems super resourceful and I guarantee it will be a big hit.
