The question of whether microfiber sheets are comfortable is simple. Of course they are! What else would microfiber sheets be other than comfortable considering the fabric they are made of? I will say, though, that there are certain times when a microfiber sheet set is not going to do you any favors, which Iโll cover here. But first, let me tell you all about why microfiber sheets are amazing for anyone who is purchasing a new sheet set.
Microfiber Sheets are Like Silk
According to the Sleep Foundation, โMicrofiber sheets offer excellent value for money, boasting many of the qualities of more expensive materials at a fraction of the price. This synthetic material is woven with ultra-thin fibers that give it superior durability and a smooth feel that rivals silk.โ
But better because you are not going to have to worry about killing bugs in order to have a new set of sheets. Silkworms are required to make silk fabric. Microfiber fabric is manufactured in a chemical process typically done by robots. This means you are going to be choosing a vegan fabric for your bed set.
That means a lot to some people who are vegan or want to avoid using animal products. Silk is also super difficult to take care of. You simply arenโt going to be able to wash and dry your silk sheets like you can microfiber sheets. This makes all the difference in how well you can sleep. You simply cannot be comfortable if the sheets are going to be difficult to clean.
First of all, you wonโt wash them often enough to make a difference, leaving you with dirty and crunchy sheets that might be full of crumbs. Who knows? The point is, when you have microfiber sheets, itโs easy to throw them in the washing machine without a second glance.
You canโt do the same with silk, which means those sheets are more likely to be dirty and covered in gross sweat and bacteria. Thatโs going to make you itch and may even give you a rash while you are sleeping. Letโs avoid that by using microfiber sheets that are like silk without all the problems.
Microfiber Fabric is Made for Comfort
This microfiber fabric is some space age stuff for sure, manufactured with human conditions in mind. These materials made from microfiber are like suede or velvet to the touch, and they have ample stretch to support your moving body at night. When you are asleep, the last thing you want to think about is whether your sheet will move with you or against you. A stiff sheet made from crappy polyester or some linen like fabric will not stretch. You need to stretch in your sheet set, trust me on this.
When you can move and groove with the sheet going with your body, you can relax. Your body doesnโt have to work so hard, and you can stay warm and cozy. The entire purpose of a sheet on the top or bottom is to protect your body and make the mattress more comfortable. It is also needed to help you sleep better by keeping you at a certain body temperature.
If the sheet is not made of a material dedicated to warmth and comfort, then you are not going to benefit from this support. Youโll end up sweating or freezing at some point during the night due to shoddy material that does not keep the warmth in and the wind out.
Microfiber is great for this. The material naturally traps heat inside of the protective cocoon it creates on the top of your mattress. Whether you move around a lot when sleeping or not, the top sheet is going to drape around your body and move with you. This makes a ton of difference when you are trying to stay comfortable.
When Microfiber Sheets Suck
Then there is that time of the year when, no matter what you do, you will have trouble being comfortable while you sleep. This is the coldest and hottest time of the winter and summer seasons. It is going to be that one day of the season when everything is hot, even your microwave. Itโs one of those things.
Your sheet set wonโt save you from a restless sleep no matter what the material. This includes our beloved microfiber sheets, too. Itโs true, and you want to do the best you can in life. I still recommend getting microfiber sheets as a set for one of the many times you change your bedding.
This means that you might also want to invest in flannel sheets for winter, and cotton sheets for summer. The spring and fall might actually be the best times of the year to use microfiber sheets. Because, yes, these sheets are comfortable. However, when you think about how long you spend in bed, you want more than comfort.
You want to lie there and feel like you are somewhere elseโfloating on a cloud of sorts. This is where choosing the right type of sheets based on fabric and weightโfor the season of the yearโis the optimal solution.
