Single-wall kitchens are where all cabinets/countertops are lined up against one wall. These days, most have an island, which I then refer to it as a single wall with an island kitchen.
We lived in a house with a single wall and with an island kitchen. It’s a great layout. Very simple, efficient, and easy to move around in yet with a large island, you get plenty of storage and workspace. It’s a great kitchen layout for open-concept living spaces.
Our collection includes with and without islands.

Single Wall Kitchen Design Ideas
The single-wall kitchen design concept is growing in popularity and is often the perfect choice for a smaller space with a lot of natural light. Our survey data shows that only 8% of responders have a single-wall kitchen, which is a shame!
Single-wall kitchens are excellent because they offer homeowners the chance to have everything in the kitchen within a few shimmies to the left or the right. If you have a dining room and kitchen combo, the single-wall kitchen can be especially compelling because youโll be able to converse with your guests while youโre preparing their meals.
Shimmying To Better Interior Design
The single-wall kitchen is the most vibrant when it gets a lot of natural light which can bounce off of the light-colored cabinets and surfaces of the single-walled kitchen. If you have your single-wall kitchen locked away in a room without any natural light, itโll just seem like an overgrown cupboard rather than a fun place to prepare a meal.
The single-walled kitchen also needs a wonderful walking spaceโand hardwood does the trick more often than not.
The fun of the single-walled kitchen is the leaning and reaching back and forth to access appliances and utensils near and far, all while staying in relatively the same spot. For those who love to entertain, thereโs a special kind of joy that comes along with working in a single-wall kitchen and being able to turn around with full plates ready for serving.
Appliance Compliance
Single-wall kitchens can be tough for those who have a lot of appliances because they typically lack a lot of counter space. If youโre considering a single-wall kitchen for your home, think about how much counter space you need, and where youโre going to want it.
Around the sink is typically where thereโs the biggest crunch for counter space which clashes with appliance space in the single-wall kitchen concept. If you can find a way to make it workโperhaps by using vertical space to store appliances while theyโre not in useโyouโll find that the single-wall kitchen is one of the more active kitchen styles out there.
