Dining table set with bench seating.I’m going to come out and say it… I’m not a big fan of bench seating at dining tables. However, many people do (including my wife). It’s not that I don’t like the look of it.

Instead I simply don’t care for sitting on benches. I like large, comfortable dining chairs. In fact, I’m surprised that so many formal dining room chairs aren’t all that comfortable unlike breakfast nooks which offers backs on the benches.

Nevertheless, dining room sets with bench seating are popular. It’s also our editorial policy to avoid publishing galleries and collections of interior designs, products and architecture that we at Home Stratosphere like. Instead, our aim is to publish variety and quality designs/products whether we like them or not.

Many of the dining sets featured below come with at least 4 chairs plus a bench. This means you can employ the bench in the event you have more than 4 diners. I’ll say this about benches – it’s a decent space-saving dining room feature because you can seat 2 people on them in less space than 2 chairs use.

1 Tip for Buying Dining Furniture

Obviously get a color and design you like and that works in your home. However, one tip is to measure your dining space and choose a dining set that will not cramp your room. You want enough room so that people can walk around the table while people are seated. It’s not fun for guests and diners to have slide their chairs in and out as people try to walk out of the room.

Therefore, you want to consider both the length and width of the table carefully and then add adequate circumference for people seated at the table… allowing for nearly 2 feet on all sides plus another 2 feet for aisles. I’ve dined in too many living rooms where the dining room furniture takes up too much space (including my own home).
