The Chess Residence is an Interior Design project for a young family in Hillsborough, California. The home was originally built in the 1960s, has 4 bedrooms and 3-1/2 baths, and is situated amongst a group of old oak trees on a sloping lot of 0.7 acres.
One of the main features of the home is the numerous floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the surrounding trees and allow soft green light to permeate the entire space. In order to maximize the natural lighting in the space and to not distract from the treetops that are framed by the windows, we simplified the layout of the area and used an understated, yet elegant and modern color and furniture palette that enhances the existing setting rather than compete with it.
