For those who love water sports and activities, the Ski House H2o designed by Hughes Umbanhowar Architects is a dream come true. Hobe Sound, Florida serves as the perfect backdrop for this modern residence that offers stunning views of the glittering lake from an elevated perspective. Although the whole house is fabulous, the primary bedroom and its view are especially noteworthy.
The Surroundings
One of the first things anyone notices is the scenery that surrounds the home, particularly the artificial lake. The ยฝ mile length body of water serves as a course for slalom racing and water skiing. The lake had existed before the homeowners purchased the land, but they modified it to match their love of water skiing.
The home features covered outdoor spaces along with decks and patios so the homeowners can relax and enjoy the view. An exterior fireplace between the wings of the house beckons the owners and their guests to cozy up and enjoy a cooler Florida night. There is also an exterior shower off the primary bedroom wing.
Perhaps one of the best exterior features is the lakeside terrace, which features a lap pool. The metal roof of the home shades the terrace and the water cooled breezes that come in off the lake provide additional comfort. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows throughout the home make the home appear stunning at night from any exterior angle.
The Interior
The house contains three well-defined areas, which includes the primary bedroom, social space, and guest wing. The primary bedroom has one wall made entirely of glass panels so the homeowners can enjoy an expansive view of the lake. The primary bathroom offers dual sinks, a large bathtub with a view, and a shower.
Materials used to build this stable residence include:
- Fleetwood windows
- Louver panels
- Concrete polished flooring (30% fly ash)
- Steel framing
- ICF wall systems
Although the 3,100-square foot home may seem large and abundantly modern, it contains several modest elements. For instance, roll down shades made of cloth offer a humble appearance, yet they are low maintenance, which is a benefit to the homeowners. By all appearances, the residence is the perfect blend of modesty and modernity all rolled into one gorgeously artistic package.
Nearly every room throughout the home offers views of the lake and surrounding landscape. Thankfully, though, the homeowners can enjoy plenty of privacy when necessary by making use of the shades installed over the windows. During the day, though, the house receives plenty of natural lighting that brightens up the home and reduces the need to waste electricity on overhead lighting.
Overall, the Ski House H2o is a perfect example of the skilled and artistically creative abilities of the designer. The residence settles in among the landscape nicely. In fact, when the lake reflects off the large windows, it allows the home to blend in more naturally with the surroundings.
With such a large, inviting, and open floor space, each room of the house ensures proper functionality. No room feel unused, disconnected, or underwhelming. Instead, each area invites either private time and relaxation, or social togetherness for the whole family to enjoy.
