Don't underestimate the attractiveness of a red exterior for your house. Here's a gorgeous collection of 48 houses painted red. This is the quintessential country home color in Sweden and in many cases it's lovely.
A few years ago I had the good fortune to visit Sweden, which is a beautiful country. One thing that struck me is that there are a lot of red houses there. I loved it. The countryside is peppered with red (and yellow) houses. It was really interesting because red exterior is not all that common in North America and other countries. It’s a hallmark of Sweden residential architecture.
As far as I’m concerned, red is underrated as a home exterior color. I love it and would gladly paint my house red like the Swedes. Perhaps this gallery will demonstrate and even persuade you that red is a good option. Check out the many different house styles and sizes below. Yes, we include several houses from Sweden that are red.

Handsome red home on large farm with mountains in the background. The area under the multiple gables of the roof is beige, which I don’t think works well. I don’t care for the red and beige contrast.

Another red and white Swedish country home with red tile roof. This home sits on a large open property.
Close-up of a new custom home with red wood exterior contrasted with plenty of white trim. Home includes large veranda and a dark gray front door.

Red home on rocky property next to a Norwegian fjord. Stunning photo of the fjord with rising snow-covered rocky mountains. I’d love to go there some day.
Simple suburban house with rust red exterior combined with a taupe trim. Notice how the garage door is also red which may result in a bit too much red in this instance.
Deep red home with wood siding combined with dark brown trim gives this home an attractive curb appeal that’s unique, distinctive and as far as I’m concerned, a good color exterior combination for the home’s design.
Red exterior home with white trim and white carriage garage doors. The red and white is tempered with a natural wood railing porch and gazebo that extends off the home’s veranda.
Red houses on stilts built on the water. The homes are built in an old design but are new with the terrific picture window and contemporary deck railing jutting out over the water.
Another classic Swedish red home with white trim on country property with lawn, trees and surrounded by forrest.
Pink red tropical home with a tower room.
Ornate deep red exterior home with both muted yellow and white trim. I don’t care for the yellow included in this exterior… if it were just white, it would look much better.

Aerial view of a stunning Norwegian fishing village peppered with red homes.
