Don't underestimate the attractiveness of a red exterior for your house. Here's a gorgeous collection of 48 houses painted red. This is the quintessential country home color in Sweden and in many cases it's lovely.
A few years ago I had the good fortune to visit Sweden, which is a beautiful country. One thing that struck me is that there are a lot of red houses there. I loved it. The countryside is peppered with red (and yellow) houses. It was really interesting because red exterior is not all that common in North America and other countries. It’s a hallmark of Sweden residential architecture.
As far as I’m concerned, red is underrated as a home exterior color. I love it and would gladly paint my house red like the Swedes. Perhaps this gallery will demonstrate and even persuade you that red is a good option. Check out the many different house styles and sizes below. Yes, we include several houses from Sweden that are red.
Bungalow style home with purple red shingle exterior combined with soft yellow exterior. Interesting covered balcony under the gable peak overlooks the front yard.
Modern home with red and white exterior. This attractive cube style home includes roof-top balcony and red sculpture fence in the front yard.
Salmon colored beach mansion with stucco exterior. White trim contrasts nicely with this tropical home. Long set of brown tile stairs leads to large double wide wood front doors situated under an arched window.
Stylish new farmhouse style home with red paint exterior. Front of home includes full-width covered porch. Double bay garage sits to the side and faces the curb which includes bonus room above the garage.
Handsome red home on large farm with mountains in the background. The area under the multiple gables of the roof is beige, which I don’t think works well. I don’t care for the red and beige contrast.
Quaint Swedish red home with gambrel roof surrounded by trees and meadow.
Another red and white Swedish country home with red tile roof. This home sits on a large open property.
Close-up of a new custom home with red wood exterior contrasted with plenty of white trim. Home includes large veranda and a dark gray front door.
Red suburban home with gray and white. I love the red and gray combination. The neutral gray tempers the red and of course the white trim is always an excellent color for red houses.
Red home on rocky property next to a Norwegian fjord. Stunning photo of the fjord with rising snow-covered rocky mountains. I’d love to go there some day.
Simple suburban house with rust red exterior combined with a taupe trim. Notice how the garage door is also red which may result in a bit too much red in this instance.
Deep red home with wood siding combined with dark brown trim gives this home an attractive curb appeal that’s unique, distinctive and as far as I’m concerned, a good color exterior combination for the home’s design.
Red exterior home with white trim and white carriage garage doors. The red and white is tempered with a natural wood railing porch and gazebo that extends off the home’s veranda.
Red houses on stilts built on the water. The homes are built in an old design but are new with the terrific picture window and contemporary deck railing jutting out over the water.
Another classic Swedish red home with white trim on country property with lawn, trees and surrounded by forrest.
Pink red tropical home with a tower room.
Ornate deep red exterior home with both muted yellow and white trim. I don’t care for the yellow included in this exterior… if it were just white, it would look much better.
View of several red exterior homes in Sweden next to a small river surrounded by lush vegetation.
Aerial view of a stunning Norwegian fishing village peppered with red homes.
Row of colorful townhouses that include yellow, blue, green, white and red. I love the colorful row which goes well with the historic design of the homes.
