Michael Phelps is an American retired swimmer who is the current record holder for having the most number of Olympic medals, 28 in all, won. He also earned the recognition of being the first American male swimmer to be a part of five Olympic teams. While he became the youngest American male swimmer to be a part of the Olympic Games when he competed at 15 in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, he made history for being the oldest Olympic swimmer to have won an individual gold medal at 28.
Phelps, nicknamed โThe Flying Fish,โ has set a whooping total of 39 world records, the most number of records of all time. He also broke the world record at the 2009 World Championshipโs 100-meter butterfly by swimming at an amazing speed of 5.5 miles per hour. Now, he is the long course world record holder not only in the 100-meter butterfly but also in 200-meter butterfly, and 400-meter individual medley. He used to hold the long course world record in the 200-meter individual medley and 200-meter freestyle.
In June 2016, Phelps secretly married his girlfriend Nicole Johnson, whom he has been dating on and off since 2001. Johnson is former Miss California USA. Their first son, Boom Robert Phelps, was born in May 2016. Less than a year later, their second son, Beckett Richards Phelps, was born in February 2018.
The Phelps family calls Paradise Valley, Arizona their home. It is also where he spends his time volunteering alongside his coach Bob Bowman.
