I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but it kind of seems like people are moving away from things that are colorful. We’ve gone through periods of maximalism, but it seems that minimalism is really in vogue these days when it comes to interior design. And the thing about minimalism is that it often involves rather subdued shades.
Which is all well and good, but sometimes it’s refreshing to see a room that isn’t afraid to get a little bit crazy with colors! Having bright colors in your home not only says something about who you are and what you like to surround yourself with, but it also does a great job of elevating your mood!
So far all of you color enthusiasts out there, we’ve prepared a fantastic collection of primary bedrooms that are getting funky with their color combinations whether that just be through paint, linens, or other bedroom accessories. Hopefully you’ll find some inspiration for your own home self improvement projects!
1. The Contrasting Colorful Bedroom
Color Scheme: We’re starting out this collection wonderfully with this color contrast. Shades of blue and orange always look fantastic next to one another, and in this case we get a lovely shade of subdued orange paired with a shade of subdued blue. This darker sea foam and ripe tangerine combination works fantastically together.
Furniture: A cozy, padded bed frame looks wonderful beside more stark and simple bed side tables, marrying a more inviting look with a structured look.
Flooring: I’m always impressed when I see a herringbone wood floor, and this one surely does not disappoint! I also always love a lighter shade of wood stain, and this one reminds me a bit of a sandy beach.
Lighting: The lighting in this space is impeccable, with huge bed side lamps with lamp shades that mimic the ripe tangerine orange throughout the room, while hanging light bulbs add a little bit of kitsch.
Accessories: Simple linens are the right choice when using brighter colors throughout, especially when using a patterned rug like this one. The area rug matches the wall color perfectly, and the pattern is subtle enough that it doesn’t feel loud.
2. The Pop of Red Bedroom
Color Scheme: This room is doing something interesting where it’s utilizing different shade of blue to create depth and dimension, while gray for the closet area gives a bit of a camouflage effect. Where things get fun is with that super loud pop of red in the piece of artwork hanging above the bed.
Furniture: We only have one visible piece of furniture in this space, but it certainly does take up a lot of room! This beautiful leather bed frame has built in bed sides tables on the sides for books and lamps and earrings. It’s luxurious, simple, and everything you need in your bedroom.
Flooring: A very warm stain used for the wood flooring works wonders, especially when it is set beside cooler tones of blue. Every room needs a pop of warmth in my opinion, and we get it here with the gorgeous antique wood.
Lighting: This room has very simple lighting with pot lights in the ceiling and some simple bed side lamps for that night time reading.
Accessories: The room is keeping it very simple with plain linens in beautiful colors. Though the artwork is simple too, it makes quite the statement with that pop of red.
3. The Blushing Teal Primary Bedroom
Color Scheme: Though both of these colors are rather tame on their own, they become something quite dramatic when paired. The dark teal feels grounding and calming, while the blush pink feels warm and ticklish, whatever that means. I said what I said.
Furniture: Simple furniture works wonders here with a lovely padded head board to make the bed feel even more inviting than it already does, and simple side tables do exactly what they need to do: shelf fun accessories!
Flooring: We see just a fraction of a beautiful shade of wood used for the flooring here. This is the element of warmth that I always look for in a room.
Lighting: Super fun, vintage looking light fixtures add that lovely classic element to an overall fresh and modern room.
Accessories: I like how all of the accessories in this room are like lighter shades of the color theme. Simple vases add shape and texture, and a beautiful plant brings life and freshness!
4. The Ray of Sunshine Bedroom
Color Scheme: While so far, the other rooms have had more subdued color themes, this room is not holding back! We have two very contrasting colors: blue and yellow, and these particular shades create a very dramatic effect! Teal and sunshine yellow feels very happy and bright together.
Furniture: With such bright colors, it’s important to tone things down in the furniture department which they’ve done here with a simple white bed frame and corresponding bed side tables.
Flooring: Another herringbone floor! I really love the fact that this wood flooring feels very vintage and warm, especially since the other aspects of the room are super modern and flashy.
Lighting: How the designer managed to find the exact same shade of yellow for those hanging light fixtures as the bedding, I will never know!
Accessories: These linens are very beautiful and versatile. While they make a huge statement against the teal wall, they could become very warm if it was paired with a blushing pink or a cream color.
5. The Boho Blue Bedroom
Color Scheme: While we don’t exactly have a color scheme here, different patterns and color combinations all work together to create a very bohemian and eclectic feel in this superbly inviting room.
Furniture: I’m really love the use of unconventional furniture in this room. Wooden boxes are used as an ottoman for the end of the bed, simple wood shelving on either side of the bed feels wonderfully rustic, and this DIY framed rope is so kitschy to hang personal effects on!
Flooring: We have classic wood flooring here which goes so well with the overall feel of the room.
Accessories: The accessories in this room are really what makes it feel special. So many different patterns, colors, and textures go in to create something that is very warm, inviting, and funky all at the same time. Additionally, the use of plants in the space brings an element of freshness, and the wind chime and dream catchers encourage serenity.
6. The Dusty Pink Pops Bedroom
Color Scheme: The color scheme here feels very calming with a lovely accent wall of deep navy, and warmer shades of dusty pink and deep mauve to bring warmth and a little lightness. Lighter grays throughout the rest of the room act as a great foundational color for the others to really pop.
Furniture: Simple but cozy furniture at work here, with a bed frame with a lovely padded head rest, a cozy accent chair, and lovely little cabinet unit to act as a side table.
Flooring: More modern flooring in this room with light gray panelled floors. While I always like an element of wood in a room to bring warmth, we get that with cozy accessories instead!
Lighting: Three woven light fixtures all hang together above the bed, and they add a cute boho chic element while still being utile.
Accessories: The accessories in this room are really where everything shines. A gorgeous knit throw blanket is truly the centrepiece, and beautifully colored throw pillows help bring everything together. The room is super cohesive with the artwork choices as well and their floral themes.
7. The Richest Red Bedroom
Color Scheme: This room has dedicated itself to being very rich in color, and the color choices in this room are simple excellent. The rich red color is strikingly elegant, while the earthy choice of green brings a surprising but wonderful contrast. Though very different, I find these colors work remarkably well together.
Furniture: Antique furniture in this space is anything but stuffy, with an extravagant bed frame, a luxurious bed-end ottoman, and ornate accent chairs in the same shade as the green accent wall. A stunning room from head to toe.
Flooring: We see an absolutely gorgeous patterned wood floor in this room, that I think shouldn’t be covered up by the rug (even though it’s gorgeous). That’s the thing about antique homes, they really don’t make floors like that anymore.
Lighting: Another thing I love about antique homes is the fact that lighting isn’t built into the ceilings and walls, more romantic lighting comes from bed side lamps like these.
Accessories: There are nothing but special accessories in this space, from the luxury curtains that match everything in the room perfectly, to the super neat lamps, and framed photographs on the walls. This is a beautiful room.
8. The Contrasting Primary Bedroom
Color Scheme: Wow! What an intense color combination! I personally love pairing red and blue together, and this combination is particularly dramatic since pattern is getting involved too!
Furniture: This is a wonderfully strange and modern bed frame with rounded corners, making it feel futuristic and unique. It’s a good thing the bed side tables are simple, otherwise all of the elements in the room would have been loud!
Flooring: It’s kind of rare to see carpeted floors these days, but I’m here for it! Especially with this gorgeous sandy color, it’s the right neutral tone and cozy element that this room needed before it became too much.
Lighting: I really appreciate the bulb lighting in this room, especially since I think the goal was to make them look like street lamps which go so great with the huge painting.
Accessories: I personally love the dotted comforter, but I don’t know if I’d pair it with a painting like that one. The painting is so dramatic and huge all on its own that all of the other accessories could have been plain, but I’m sure the person who lives in this room is perfectly happy with the combination.
9. The Color Block Loft Bedroom
Color Scheme: I really love the colors in this room, especially because none of them are really coordinated and none of them really go together. It’s a mish mash of subdued shades that all work together to create something very unique and special.
Furniture: Perfectly simple furniture is working wonders here, with a lovely classic shape of bed frame and bed side shelf. These simple features really let the rug and interesting lofted structure of this room shine.
Flooring: Super classic wood flooring here that highlights the other elements of the room nicely.
Accessories: The accessories are super fun in this room, with this great checkered and colored rug, to the super bright bed side lamp and simple but serene art work on the wall. I particularly love the placement of all of these different aspects.

10. The High Tea Room Bedroom
Color Scheme: I really really love the color combinations in this room. There are so many different bright colors at play, but somehow they all work together so nicely and they don’t feel loud together. We have fresh tangerine, magenta, dusty rose, cream, sage, and a pop of sky blue. These colors are all so delicious together you may just want to take a bite!
Furniture: Everything in this room is plush. From the lovely little accent sofa to the gorgeous pink padded bed frame, all of the elements are simply the perfect choices for a dream primary bedroom.
Lighting: We’ve got nothing but fun and funky light fixtures in this room. From the bright and colorful bed side lamp, the ethereal and metallic floor lamp, and the gaudy and extravagant overhead lamp fixture, they all work together to make the room fun and bright.
Accessories: The accessories in this room are really what makes it special. Beautiful and lush throw pillows, bright and airy curtains, striking wall paper, fresh flowers, and one of the most gorgeous area rugs I’ve ever seen all come together to create a stunning room.

11. The Fun Rug Bedroom
Color Scheme: This room doesn’t exactly have a color scheme, but it does have so many fun pops of color throughout. A delicate blue to adorn the sleeping area, a fun pop of color in the form of a throw pillow, and a super pigmented rainbow rug really liven up the rustic elements of the space.
Furniture: This is truly the perfect bed frame to me: simple and wooden. It goes wonderfully with rustic accent chairs and a lovely antique set of drawers, marrying the antique with the modern and becoming one beautiful unit!
Lighting: Very simple lighting in this space with a bending arm side lamp, a metallic lamp set on the chest of drawers, and a simple globe light fixture for the ceiling.
Accessories: While we already mentioned the colorful accessories in the room, the personal effects here feel very special and inviting. I always love plants in a room, and boho elements like throw blankets and the woven tapestry bring everything together.

12. The Pop Art Bedroom
Color Scheme: Wow! Now this is a room that is really using POPS of color. The only things present in this room are white and insane pops of color. This is so fun and unique, and a color scheme not everyone would dare to try!
Furniture: We’ve got some super simple furniture in this room, and also some very strange furniture. The bed frame and cool and furry accent chairs match perfectly. There is also a strange cactus statue in the corner of the room that feels totally out of place but belongs there at the same time. A weird room, but a good one.
Flooring: White floors to go with white walls. Naturally.
Lighting: I’ve never really seen a light fixture like the one in this room, and I am in love. I’m always a sucker for neon lights, but I’d never expect to see one in a primary bedroom! I think it works great because the neon lights are in a warmer hue, so it doesn’t cool down the room.
Accessories: The accessories are really carrying the color theme in this room. Big, blocky, obnoxious, primary colors. Though it’s not my cup of tea, I do appreciate the audacity of it.

13. The Patterned Bedroom
Color Scheme: Oh I just think this room is so special. The designer here is working with color themes of various shades of blueish green and pinkish red, and doing so with textiles, furniture, plants, and everything else in between! I love these contrasting colors, and it was done so cleverly here with pops of patterns.
Furniture: We have some very special furniture here by way of a plush, custom, patterned bed frame, and gorgeously comfortable looking lounge chair, an antique shelf, and a classic chest of drawers. This room just feels so cohesive and inviting. I love it!
Lighting: There are several different light fixtures in this room. A classic cream colored lamp sits on the dresser, a bohemian hanging light decorates the window, while a super brightly painted chandelier extends the color scheme to the ceiling.
Accessories: This room is another great example of letting accessories do the design work for you. The beautiful patterned curtains match the bed frame flawlessly, the wallpaper adds pattern without being too loud, and pink highlights all over the room and the perfect pop of color.

14. The Wallpapered Bedroom
Color Scheme: Another amazing example of using fun patterns to create an interesting color scheme. Different shades of blues and pinks both create contrast and cohesion all throughout this room.
Furniture: A California king works splendidly in a room that is longer than it is wide, and the color of pink used for the bedding pairs so beautifully with the super light, minty shade on the Japanese inspired dresser.
Flooring: While so much of the room is bright and colorful, it pays to use a lighter shade of wood stain to let all of the other elements of the room shine. This wood flooring is both grounding (literally) and bright.
Accessories: There are so many fun accessories in this space! From the eggshell blue wall, the gorgeous patterned wallpaper, and the handful of amazing graphic pieces of artwork, they all cohesively work together to make the room shine as whole.

15. The Greatest Green Room Bedroom
Color Scheme: I am in love with the earth tones that were used in this room design. Terracotta red, pistachio green, and red brick all feel so warm and cozy together.
Furniture: Here we see a wonderfully sturdy and rustic bed frame is all we need in a room that has so many gorgeous structural elements to add decoration and utility.
Flooring: Antique wood floors are truly the only option to pair with the brick accent wall and wooden window framing.
Lighting: These are very cute accordion pull out light fixtures that go great with all of the other vintage elements in the room.
Accessories: The accessories in this room come in form of truly beautiful and color varying linens and throw pillows, along with a sublime orchid adorning the bed side table in this primary bedroom.
16. The Subtle Toned Room
Color Scheme: We’re finishing off this collection with a lovely combination of pastel wall colors and rich tones of brown present throughout the furniture pieces. While they aren’t poppy colors, the shades of gentle yellow and eggshell blue are incredible effective.
Furniture: Very richly colored wood has been used for the majority of the furniture pieces in this room, creating a feel of luxury. Accent chairs and a little reading sofa add a really nice classic element to a more masculine bedroom set.
Flooring: Pristine wood flooring is lightly decorated with a plush, cream colored area rug.
Lighting: Classic wall lamps and table lamps adorn the perimeter of the room to eliminate the need for overhead lighting. Mood lighting!
Accessories: While so many of the accessories and fairly simple and rudimentary, I find the pieces of artwork above the bed and fireplace striking and sublime. With rich tones of royal purple and yellow, these are truly what makes the room striking.
