Welcome to our gallery highlighting the gorgeous contemporary La Canada Mid-Century project, a home designed by Jamie Bush & Co.
Standing in the foothills of La Cañada Flintridge, California, this 5,000 square foot modern home was built from glass, steel, redwood, and stone, evoking its mid-century predecessor.
The prior structure had been in poor condition and, over time, fallen into complete disrepair.
The owners spent six years perfecting their new home. It is an homage to the original, albeit with major aesthetic and technological improvements to guarantee longevity well into the future.
With an exterior wrapped in full height glazing and rich natural timber, the home blends indoor and outdoor spaces visually, for a seamless journey through its rooms.
The angular modern structure is filled with natural elements, calling back to the original residence and the surrounding countryside.
We hope you enjoy this wonderful renovation and home design by Jamie Bush & Co.
Seeing the exterior in the bright light of day, we witness a cornucopia of materials, including stone, redwood, steel, and the luxurious full-height glazing all around. The sharply angled, flat topped structure stands out within its forested environment.
The open design living room houses an array of contemporary furniture, including white sofa and club chair, contrasting with the natural building materials surrounding. The large format stone tile flooring creates an earthy anchor for the space.
At the other end of the open space, we see the dining room, housing this large, unique dining table and set of leather upholstered chairs. A pair of paper-feathered chandeliers hangs above.
The sprawling open design includes this stunning area between the kitchen and a living room, with open fireplace wall in stone commanding attention. A small library stands behind, while a dining table surrounded by modern yellow chairs sits in front.
Turning tot he side, we see the cozy library area centered on a thick beige rug and matching wicker-frame furniture. The floating metal and timber staircase can be seen in background.
The living room houses a sparkling mixture of elements, from dark stone flooring to bright redwood and neutral concrete walls, to chrome and black tables and storage.
Bursts of color appear throughout, including this pair of lush red chairs beneath a bright red painting, against the concrete structural wall. A large zebra print ottoman stands at right.
Moving the other way, we see the pristine, ultra-modern kitchen, defined by brushed metal across all cabinetry and countertops. The large island at center holds a cooktop, sink, and raised dining space.
The kitchen is fully illuminated during day by the wraparound glazing. Here we see the barstool dining area overlooking the expansive patio at right.
The patio continues the stone tile from within the house, expanding to a tall seamless timber fence. Various arrays of seating surround the swimming pool.
The tile wrapped pool features a small waterfall feature and raised jacuzzi, standing below the tall, sloped fence wrapping the property.
Here’s a close view of the cool blue tile wrapping the pool space, contrasting sharply with the rich warm wood tones of the fence.
The patio extends to this semi-sheltered space, replete with fountain and abundant greenery.
Returning indoors, we see this home office centered around an immense glass top desk built over a knot of found-wood. Rich timber walls and natural light make the minimalist space glow.
The walls feature floating wood-paneled shelving, seen here over the massive expanse of glass and bright red leather office chair.
Moving into the private bedroom spaces of the home, bright orange is introduced to the color palette. Another knotted wood piece here forms a side table, surrounded by art.
The primary bedroom houses a large four-poster bed with a black metal frame matching the structure of the house. A small private balcony extends through full height glass at left.
A minimalist, two-tiered bedside table stands beside the lime green headboard, with orange door at left.
This bathroom features rich wood panel cabinetry beneath a marble vanity countertop. An array of open-bulb pendant lights creates a unique chandelier effect.
Beige marble fills the room, including this immense walk-in shower enclosed in glass, housing a soaking tub.
The upper floor hallway is lit by a series of colorful bottle-like light features. Intricate hardwood flooring appears here.
Moving toward the bedrooms, we see white walls and orange doors contrasting with the hardwood flooring. A black leather chair stands beneath a glass sun sculpture between two rooms.
This room features an artful mixture of eclectic elements for the music lover, including Beatles art prints on the wall and a hanging, transparent egg chair. Built-in shelving matches the rich wood wall tones.
Another bedroom flaunts the mixture of rich wood panels and eclectic colors, including bold area rug and multicolored settee.
This bathroom houses a lengthy dual vanity, with faucets extending from the large mirrors themselves.
The sprawling home has room for a second, smaller patio. This space is wrapped in vegetation, with direct access from the bedrooms.
