Welcome to our gallery featuring the immaculate Casa di Juhana home, designed by Maurizio Giovannoni.
This uniquely styled apartment is a cozy little penthouse situated in Turku, in southern Finland.
The Scandinavian design ethos is all over this spectacular interior, combining minimalism and high function into a style of its own.
The cozy floor plan, offering only 65 square meters to play with, gave the designers extra incentive to maximize the available space and craft a memorable interior.
Before the renovation began, the apartment contained too many walls and doors, blocking spaces off and restricting the sense of flow for people and light. The only view of the historical surroundings was in the bedroom, not an optimal place.
The goal for the project was to let light flow through the interior, while creating a relaxing open living room where the client could do his creative work at home.
In an effort to open the floor plan up, many interior walls had to go. This made it easy to reverse the locations of the living room and bedroom for more optimal outside views.
The bright white of the interior is spiked throughout with bursts of bold primary colors, evoking a blend of cultures between the Scandinavian client’s tastes and the Italian designers’.
The flooring features a white ash parquet, while shelves and the kitchen table are carved out of birch. Because natural wood is such a foundational element of the design, it became a catalyst for nature themed wallpaper and the accompanying colors seen throughout the rest of the home.
Furniture is a mixture of both aforementioned cultures, with a vintage Finnish armchair and red floor lamp meeting Italian artwork, suspended lamps,  and a host of other unique pieces. The whole space centers on harmonic balance.
With the client’s request of, “I wanna live in a jungle and dive into a dream,” the bedroom was crafted from a variety of sources, centered on this fairy tale idea. The room is flush with pieces from emerging designers from Turkey, France, Finland, and Italy.
The incredible wallpaper was created by famous Italian illustrator Bimba Landmann, a custom design specially made for this home.
The overall effect is of a heightened modern space infected with the magic of the surreal.

The kitchen is awash in sleek white cabinetry, contrasting with the rich birch wood of the dining room table. Surrounded by a set of brightly colored A-frame chairs, this is the centerpiece of the open space where the living room meets the kitchen.
Peeking around the corner toward the dining area from the main entry, we see one of many custom shelving designs carved into the walls. These natural wood shelves provide space for artwork and break up the pure white surroundings.
Here we see the bright colors blooming on the opposite end of the open plan area, with the boldly modern green sofa backed against an intricately painted jungle backdrop. An arc lamp and steel-and-red floor lamp complement the space.
The various intricately crafted furniture pieces act as art accents within this starkly modern space. Bright colors infiltrate the white expanse for a striking effect.
The large windows in this space, formerly a bedroom, offer views over the surrounding historical district as well as an abundance of natural light to fill the interior.
A simple perforated dividing wall, made of rich natural birch, helps define the living room area within the larger open plan layout.
Seen from the dining room, the dividing wall reveals a large set of bookshelves built into the wall, with more rich birch adding contrast and color to the space. A single Scandinavian lounge chair completes the cozy library look.
Small details abound throughout the apartment, including this sleek white coat hanger on the wall. Almost invisible until it’s needed, the piece reflects the artistic approach of the design.
Moving toward the bedroom area, we see another bold artwork covering an entire wall here. This adds a surreal touch to the clean lines and minimalist style of the home.
In a home with such detailed design, even the HVAC controls are a work of art. A floral print frames the sleek white dials.
Here’s a detailed view of the rich wood slats that help define the living room. The attention to detail is astounding.
The stitch work in the area rug is as detailed as expected, helping bring a firm sense of dynamic color to the space.
Now we reach the primary bedroom, the place where dreams are made in more ways than one. The incredible wall art dominates the room, as every design choice extends from it.
With a centralized bed on a broad birch frame in white, the rest of the room brings color and nuance to the fore. Here we see a unique hand-shaped armchair and multicolored pillow accenting the space.
The minimalist design of the bedroom means that various objects are left to stand freely on the floor. Here a pair of brightly colored chairs creates a sort of art corner for the bedroom.
The bed platform appears to hover over the intentionally aged blue area rug, creating a slight rustic contrast to the space.
One of many startlingly unique details seen within the home, this dog lamp mixes natural wood and bright red into a magical science fiction design.
Here’s another intriguing lighting piece, mixing geometric natural wood frames and bold red fixtures for an enigmatic, sleekly modern look.
Finally, we leave you with the view from the large apartment windows over historic Turku, Finland.
