Welcome to our gallery focusing on theย Caroline Street project by Architecton.
Located in Aberfeldie, Victoria, Australia, this set of twin homes is a particularly intriguing structure.
This is an ambitious, modern design with a bold sense of drama in itsย architecture and style.
The clients aspiration for the property was to create a pair of high quality contemporary homes, side by side, boasting a shared sophisticated design. The idea was to have a truly unique creation with depth and intrigue.
The structureย was crafted to imbue the two residences with a sense of scale that renders them larger than life. The inclusion of elegant materials and exciting surfaces makes every angle burst with personality.
The responsive design was meant to take advantage of the temperate local climate, resulting in a highly integrated relationship between the interior and the outdoors.
The home boasts a seamless transition fromย indoor toย outdoor living spaces, with large glass sliding panels facing the rear landscape. With the glass fully retracted, the line between the living room and the rear patio is blurred.
From the living room, we can see the expertly manicured landscape in the small but impactful backyard. In fact, upon entering the home at the front, one can see directly through the rear, courtesy of an open plan design.
Despite the fact that the designers had exceptionally specific plans for a bespoke pair of modern homes, the entire plan was meant to maximize the potential of the site itself. This lead to a design that’s sensitive to the existing neighborhood while standing on its own, stylistically.
We hope you feel as inspired by this unique home as we do.
Approaching the home from the back yard, we find an elegant outdoor living space beneath a roof extension. From here we can see that the styling of the interior transitions seamlessly to the outdoors for a cohesive look.
In the center of the massive open space at the heart of the home, we peer over the dining table into the living room space, flush with contemporary furniture in neutral tones. From here we can see directly across the backyard landscape through full-height glass panels.
With the home being a lengthy, relatively slender open volume, we can see the black of the living room give way to a light grey tone on the walls as the open space transitions into the kitchen. Beyond that lies the main hallway.
The dining and kitchen area is defined by light marble flooring, distinct from the muted grey hardwood seen throughout the rest of the home. The high contrast look is amplified by a black dining set and white kitchen cabinetry. To the right, an exquisite dry bar stands beneath modern pendant lights.
The kitchen itself is defined by a large white island with thick white marble slab countertop and built-in sink. The black hued range stands flanked by sleek white cabinetry, as does a slim display shelf at right.
The primary bedroom, on the upper floor, features more of the full height glazing on the back of the home, offering unparalleled outdoor views. The neutral color palette is contrasted with black bedding and accent wall.
The bathroom is highlighted by a deep attention to texture, with a micro-tile wall backing an open design vanity with broad countertop sink. A single circular mirror hangs above the wall-mounted faucet.
This shot juxtaposes the views from the entry gate and from the front entrance itself, seeing both the dramatic exterior and the sprawling, open-plan interior. The dark wood and light marble flooring inside mirrors the look of the exterior facade.
The facade features a mixture of light concrete and black metal, framing massive windows all across the exterior. This high contrast, angular look is balanced with a delicate attention to detail in the lush landscape.
