As a professional chef, the owner of this multi-functional kitchen is often found cooking for her active family and frequent guests. The layout of the room affords dedicated work space, a homework area for the kids, and an entertainment bar for guests. This arrangement allows for social interaction regardless of where people are in the room.
Custom cabinetry from Grabill Cabinet Company provides a neutral backdrop for bold details. The custom zinc hood contrasts with the dark refrigerator cabinet with leaded watery mirror panels. Black granite countertops surround, allowing the subtle quartz countertops on the islands to stand out.
Ann Sacks natural stone with a single Schluter-Systems strip detail provides an elegant backdrop to the zinc hood. The range top is surrounded by ample counter space, including a custom pewter insert for hot items. Two 30” Wolf ovens conveniently reside in the island nearest to the range.
Bevel-cut, square leg turnings compliment the simple bead of the cabinet doors. Along with the dark wood paneled refrigerator, Sub-Zero freezer drawers are hidden behind white wood panels nearby. A pull-out pantry above the freezer drawers completes a quick-access zone.
The two islands were created for different functions: one island for food prep and cooking, the other for homework and entertainment. The light “cloud” allows a continuous view of the entire room.
Here we have the functional cooking island at center, contrasting with the surrounding white cabinetry and black countertops beneath an array of cylinder chandeliers.
The neutral stone backsplash surrounding the zinc hood stands out in the room. Details like the extra-size white basin sink and pewter countertop insert add interesting detail and function.

Here we see both the dual ovens built into the island, and the dark stained wood refrigerator concealment with leaded watery mirror panels.
Lower tier on the “homework” island features matching black granite countertop and rounded edges. Above the countertops we see the stone backsplash with single strip detail.
