Welcome to this stunning award-winning refurbishment of a 7 storyย London townhouse by LLI Design . As you’ll see in the before and after photos below, LLI Design managed to create a contemporary interior throughout while infusing it with some warmth.
Being an urban townhouse , the footprint is small. The entire interior spans 3,500 sq. ft. on all 7 floors. Each floor has a main space dedicated to it. For example, the 1st floor is a kitchen and dining area. The 2nd floor is the living room and so on.
The end result is a stunning transformation as well as LLI Desing winning the “Interior Design, London” category in the UK Property Awards – 2017 in association with Bentley Motors.
We break up the entire project by floor, starting with the before photo followed by the after photos. Our last second in this feature project we set out the before and after floor plan blueprints for each floor.

Ground Floor
Before Photo
Ground floor before photo of under the stairs.
After Ground Floor Renovation
Renovation resulted in new stylish staircase with a storage closet underneath with capability to store shoes and other items.
1st Floor – Kitchen
Before Photo
Photo before renovation of the first floor of the townhouse. It’s a large, outdated space.
After Renovation Photos
LLI Design put the new kitchen on the first floor. It’s a modern white kitchen with an island. The marble backsplash is a nice touch. There is plenty of cabinet storage. Lighting is both recessed and pendant. I love this design.
The new kitchen includes a stainless steel double wall oven and wall microwave. I like how all three are near one another which is very convenient.
The new kitchen includes a walk-in pantry that you can see at the end. There’s a small family room adjacent to the kitchen in open concept design which includes a fireplace.
The long bench seating in the kitchen area is one of my favorite features. That’s a large cushioned booth with long table and three chairs on the outside. The entire kitchen table area can easily accommodate 8 people.
Kitchen storage was a focus in this kitchen design. Here’s a small kitchen pantry off the kitchen space.
Next to the kitchen is a small family room with chaise lounge, area rug, built-in shelving and a fireplace .
2nd Floor – Laundry Room
Before Photo
Before photo of the staircase and hallway of the second floor. As you can see, the staircases were very outdated.
After Renovation Photos
LLI Design incorporated the same staircase styling throughout all 5 floors in this townhouse.
I love this bright, highly functional new laundry room with elevated washing machine and dryer with storage baskets underneath. There’s counterspace, a sink and upper cabinets. This laundry room is more than adequate for a family.
3rd Floor – Living Room
Before Photo
Here’s a photo of the main 3rd-floor space before the renovation.
After Renovation Photos
LLI Design chose to put the formal living room on the third floor. It’s an absolutely gorgeous design and sizeable for a townhouse. The fireplace is central to the space flanked by custom built-in shelving. Notice the cool firewood half-accent wall in the corner. The furniture includes a large, comfortable u-shaped sectional sofa facing two wood-framed accent chairs. The colorful area rug adds a splash of color to the otherwise neutral color scheme.
Close-up of the custom built-in shelving that’s underlit. I like how the different shelving spaces are different sizes which is visually interesting.
4th Floor – Bedrooms
After Renovation Photos
Fabulous kids bedroom with custom built red loft bed with a fort underneath. The wide stairs at the end of the bed unit doubles as shelving. This kids bedroom includes a kids bathroom off the space.
The kids bathroom is, in my view, thoughtfully designed for both kids and for guests. It’s visually interesting with a multi-checked tile but not done so in an obnoxious “kid” style. The vanity, sink and mirror offer a touch of retro style as well.
The kids bedroom includes a space pod chair that kids love. There’s also a white desk with comfortable modern white desk chair.
5th Floor – Primary Bedroom & Bath
Before Photo
Before photo of the large primary bedroom, closet and en-suite space on the fifth floor.
After Renovation Photos
LLI Designed knocked it out of the park with the primary bedroom, walk-in closet and en-suite. Here’s a photo showing the walk-in closet and part of the primary bathroom viewed from the primary bedroom.
The walk-in closet is custom built and offers storage for shirts, suits, shoes, sweaters – all types of apparel and accessories. It’s a sizeable space and very pleasing to the eye. I love the different beige tones used throughout.
The primary bathroom renovation was done top-to-bottom. Here’s a close up of the sleek chrome faucet and white vessel basin.
Here’s the deep, rectangle white tub in the primary bathroom. The tub is very angular which juxtaposes nicely with the rounded vessel basin in the same bathroom.
Here’s a view of the two white vessel basin sinks with side-by-side mirrors. The basins sit on a modern style floating vanity with lighting underneath.
