Types of Kitchen Faucets
There are countless kitchen faucet styles out there. Before you go out shopping for one, you should know the different types that are available to simplify the process.
These are the most common types:
- Two-handle: comes with two handles for adjusting water temperature and pressure
- Single-handle: comes with one handle for adjusting water temperature and pressure
- Motion sense/touchless: completely hands-free, although it usually comes with a handle, too
- Separate spray: comes with a sprayer that is not attached to the faucet
- Pull-down: perfect for kitchens that have big sinks

What You Need to Know About Mounting
Another thing you need to consider before you buy a kitchen faucet it what mounting style you want. There are three options available when it comes to mounting: deck-mounted, wall-mounted, and sink-mounted.
- Deck-mounted: centered on the countertop just behind the sink
- Wall-mounted: centered on the wall behind the sink
- Sink-mounted: centered on the sink
When you are replacing a faucet that is sink-mounted, but not the sink itself, you will be limited in your choices because you will want to get one that doesn’t have more holes than your previous one did. You can always cover up an extra hole by buying one that comes with an escutcheon plate.
What’s the “Hole” Story?
When looking at faucets, you will likely see one-hole, two-hole, three-hole, and sometimes four-hole mentioned in the descriptions. These descriptions refer to the number of holes in your sink. The most common types are one-hole and three-hole. Besides the faucet, this is what each includes:
