Ever since I watched Breaking Bad, the color purple always reminds me of Marie. Though it’s never really spoken about, it’s quite obvious that purple is Marie’s favorite color. Everything that could be purple in her home is purple. She wears purple clothes and purple jewelry and has purple linens, purple carpets, purple paint, a purple coffee grinder, and a purple toilet seat cover.
While I think the use of purple is meant to have a bit of a comedic effect in the show, purple isn’t really a color to laugh about! Purple is the color of royalty. It can be rich, calming, obnoxious, hideous, subdued, or sexy. Purple is one of those colors that creates a super dramatic contrast with pretty much every other color that you put it with, and there’s always the danger of creating a conflicting combination as well.
Since purple is such a unique and tricky color to work with, we’ve created a collection of living rooms that have purple themes. Hopefully, you can use these inspirational spaces to help make your own decisions about using purple! It’s not pink, it’s not blue, it’s purple , folks!
1. The Magenta Drapery Room
Colors: The use of purple was so cleverly done in this home decor. These glorious magenta-colored curtains bring some luxury to the space, and they are particularly effective by also using sheer white curtains to keep the windows nice and airy. Similarly, colored throw pillows continue that gorgeous contrast against a white couch, and black, shining accents work better than I thought they would.
Furniture: When you’re using super bold colors, having simple furniture is a great way to set the bold colors off, ensuring that the combination doesn’t become too loud. This modular white sofa looks so comfortable and generously sized, and it’s the perfect counterpart to the harsher coffee table.
Flooring: We see just a glimpse of a beautifully stained hardwood floor in a rather light, sandy color. This acts as a great foundation for more stark features in furniture and decor. The nice light-colored fuzzy rug also adds some warmth and softness.
2. The Multi-Purple Living Room
Color: I really like how this room is using so many different shades of purple. Though there are so many different colors going on, they’re sticking close enough to the same root color that they all blend together seamlessly. Raspberry for the accent wall, eggplant for the couch, plum for the curtains, and a few other shades scattered throughout the room.
Furniture: Simple and elegant furniture adorns this beautiful space, with a nice firm-looking sofa, some delicate and classic accent chairs, and a really lovely credenza with some fun and unique wood detailing.
Flooring: A shining white floor makes the room feel very clean, modern, and tidy. Having wood flooring would have created an entirely different feel, and the white works to keep the purple accents the focal point of the room.
Lighting: Lovely light fixtures here are set in black to keep along with the royal feel that purple provides. A large lamp-shaded floor lamp is set beside the sofa, with a neat hanging lamp with multiple arms.
Decor: The decor in this space really ties the room together. Beautiful adornments on the credenza, like a purple leaf, go so well with the wall behind it, a gorgeous assortment of throw pillows add some pattern and texture, and long flowing curtains make the room feel super tall.
3. The Purple Accented Living Room
Color: There is something very elegant and serene about this room with the different purple shades. The color choices for the curtains are stately and calming, while the choice of purple for the throw pillows and runner is delectably poppy but smart. Cream foundational colors keep the room grounded and calm.
Furniture: This gorgeous attic living room boasts a huge sectional sofa with huge cushy cushions, coupled with a rather regal, antique-looking coffee table.
Flooring: Very appropriate for an attic living room, this space is decorated by gorgeous hardwood flooring in a lovely and warm maple stain that goes so well with the cream-colored sofa.
Lighting: A stunning chandelier with fuzzy lampshades is both fun and fancy, really accentuating the dynamic essence of the room.
4. The Bold & Contrasted Living Room
Color: Now, this room is a great example of when you can use hyper-contrasting colors to create something very bold and dramatic. Using super poppy shades of red with a very poppy shade of purple may be too adventurous of a combination for some, but the fact that each piece is so simple allows for such wild color combos.
Furniture: A very unique and modern modular living room set here with a collection of lounge chairs all bunched together to create a sofa. An as equally simple, circular coffee table in white continues with the modern theme and adds a clean pop of white against darker bold colors in the furniture and the deep purple wall.
Flooring: Though I personally think combining red and brown or purple and brown is an abomination, I do adore the brown shag rug all on its own, only I would pair it with cream, tan, and maybe some shades of green.

5. The Regal Eggplant Living Room
Color: This is a really excellent example of a room that uses purple to create a sense of regality and formality and in a more robust type of room. While a more subdued shade of deep purple has been used for the walls, all the other aspects of the room are more neutral brown tones.
Furniture: I am loving this stunning caramel leather butterfly chair set in front of a brick fireplace and surrounded by kitschy pieces of furniture with rustic themes.
Flooring: A deep brown wood floor is decorated with a lovely light gray area rug. While sometimes it can be a shame to cover up a nice floor, in this case, it just makes the room feel all the more cozy.
Decor: Tons of brass accents pair so nicely with that particular shade of purple and leather chair, and framed photographs and pieces of artwork add a lovely aspect of personality to this truly wonderful living room design.

6. The Purple Patterned Living Room
Color: I think this is one of my favorite uses of purple in the collection. I’ve never seen shining purple paint before, but I simply adore the effect that it has in this room. This same tone of purple is brought through in accents on the retro sofa and again in the more elegant accent chairs. Creamy cold is spread throughout, which tones down the primary purple and also warms up the space.
Furniture: The retro pattern on this sofa is simply to die for, and the elegant furniture spread out throughout the rest of the room pairs surprisingly well with it. Huge bookshelves are lined with books as they should be.
Flooring: Super dark wood floors are warmed up by a beautiful sand-colored area rug. The fact that it’s so fuzzy brings a really nice bit of texture and coziness as well.
Lighting: A rather subtle chandelier hangs among a gorgeous vaulted ceiling with shining purple paint, while a bright golden floor lamp accentuates itself against the purple walls.
Decor: Golden decor is scattered throughout the room, and gorgeous accent colors on the sofa are extended throughout the room, which makes me start to think that the designer started with this sofa and created the rest of the room from there.
This stunning living room design comes from Calico.

7. The Orchid Wall Living Room
Color: Wow! So many different bright colors in this space. I really love the specific choice of orchid mauve for the walls, and though striking, the aquamarine and warm red accessories throughout the room really bring a lovely contrast.
Furniture: We have a stunning velvet blue sectional sofa in the space with a corresponding marble coffee table and tiny little golden side tables โ a collection of colors, textures, and patterns that all look so wonderful together.
Flooring: This lovely living room features some neutral-toned wood floors that are enrobed in one bright red area rug and another subdued gray area rug in the seating area.
Decor: Little personal effects are such an amazing way to add some personality to a room but also to really hit a color scheme home. This can be done so easily with collections of books, your favorite vases, candle holders, and more.
8. The Plum Purple Room
Colors: I think that this room has my favorite color combination in the collection – I’m always a sucker for themes that are a bit mid-century modern. The use of cream and wood is a timeless combination, and the gorgeous lilac shade of purple used for the walls is so serene.
Furniture: I love every piece of furniture in this space, from the adorable lounger sofa in cream, and the beautiful leather accent chair, to the winged armchairs with matching ottomans with teak accents and even the bean-shaped glass coffee table. Each piece is stunning, and they create magic when put together.
Flooring: This beautiful space features a cooler-toned wood floor that is topped with a subtly patterned herringbone area rug.
Lighting: There are several different light fixtures in this room: pot lights in the ceiling and a few black floor lamps scattered around the room to really hit home that mood lighting. Gorgeous!
Decor: Something I really appreciate about this space is the fact that the majority of the decor in the room is plants! Plants are gorgeous, they purify your air, and they bring an essential freshness to a space. We need more plants!

9. The Lavender Play Room
Color: EEEEE! This room is just so playful and fun. What a great example of using some wildly bright colors together to create something incredibly happy. A bright lavender wall with a Kelly green sofa and a teal accent chair are all brought together by a beautiful area rug sharing the same accent colors and an incredible flower mural!
Furniture: We have an exceptionally lovely Kelly green sectional sofa that is so versatile. While here it’s paired with super bright throw pillows, it could become something completely different with a cream-knitted blanket or leather throws.
Flooring: Concrete flooring is a rather unexpected choice for this space, but you almost don’t notice it (even though concrete floors are amazing) because of that cozy and fun tasseled area rug with a beautiful pattern.
Decor: While the bold furniture pieces were already enough on their own, this room has been brought to another level with a potpourri of textured throw pillows and fabric wall art. So fun, so unique.

10. The Sensual Mauve Room
Colors: Now, this is an example of a room that is using purple to turn itself into something sexy. Purple tends to go really well with black and gray, and adding fur into the mix just brings everything a little bit further.
Furniture: I think having super low-set furniture is a great way to make a room feel super loungy and sexy, and we get that here with this gorgeous low-set leather couch and matching accent chairs. Simple coffee tables and side tables are simple and a great combination.
Flooring: The floor here is adorned with a beautifully textured fur rug in gray that helps provide even more warmth to the space.
Lighting: With so much other stuff going on, having simple lamps on either side of the couch is a great choice to keep it all toned down.
Decor: Lighter purple throw pillows help bring the wall color into the room, while beautifully framed sketches give that pop of personality that I always like to see.

11. The Garden Living Room
Colors: This open and airy living space is so stunning with such regal purple chairs, and the contrast provided by the huge hedges outside makes it something really special. Purple is also used as an accent color on the ceiling. I love the bold choice of using a zebra print rug.
Furniture: These plush armchairs look like pieces of furniture I could stay in all day long, while the rustic coffee table further extends the inviting vibe of the space.
Flooring: Sometimes, two bold things go really well together, and in this case, it’s a bold purple combined with a bold zebra print. Stunning!
Lighting: We have very formal light fixtures in this space, with a quaint chandelier hanging in the center of the room, a matching candleholder, and a golden floor lamp in the corner of the room. Purple and gold just look so great together!

12. The Cozy Eggplant Living Room
Colors: We’re finishing off this collection with one of the more cozy rooms. This low-set room feels so warm and inviting with eggplant walls and a magenta couch, with gold and black accents scattered throughout.
Furniture: This plush, magenta sectional sofa is so cozy and inviting, while the simple coffee table provides some nice rigidity. The built-in gas fireplace provides the perfect level of luxury.
Flooring: Simple cement floors keep the space modern and really lets the purple features shine their brightest.
Decor: I find all of the decor in this space works so wonderfully together. The golden accents on the walls, the beautiful knit blanket hanging out of its basket, the patterned throw pillows, and the chess set all come together to really make you want to sit down and stay awhile.
