Here we have a gallery featuring the boldly modern San Vincente house. Standing on the hills overlooking Los Angeles, this creation by McClean Designs is a true breath of fresh air.
McClean designed this home for a family with three small girls, framing its exterior as a response to the busy street it’s located on.
The idea was to use a series of functional elements to buffer the household from external noise: drive court is flanked by high walls and tall landscaped elements, inner courtyard is shielded by a curved glass screen to allow for sunlight while stopping noise, and a waterfall and infinity pool inject a sense of peaceful calm as one approaches the house itself.
By the time you’ve entered the immense entry hall, the outer world has vanished. Employing an L shaped plan allowed the designers to maximize the expansive back yard, further screening potential noise with its quiet and peaceful space. The back garden also contains a pool and guest house.
The house itself consists of a primary plus four bedrooms on the upper level, as well as a family room, art room, and gym. The lower level contains formal living and dining rooms, second family room, media space, and office, as well as assorted secondary spaces.
The exterior is expressed in cool grey and cream limestone with light plaster and paint tones, with bronze metal accents.
We hope you enjoy checking out this beautiful home as well as we have.
Here we see the courtyard wall, comprised of concrete and curved glass layers, allowing for diffuse light to enter the inner space while deflecting noise. Lower level garage is tucked away on right.
Main staircase void is wrapped in two stories of glass, with transparent railings and open design to allow light spreading throughout the interior.
The guest house, with sloped roof and wraparound glass living room space, stands behind pool and patio area at the far end of the garden.
Looking back toward the house, we see the layers of limestone sandwiched between wide swaths of glass, affording views overlooking the vast yard and pool area.
This fully furnished and sheltered patio space on the lower level contains a conversation seating arrangement, full dining table, and kitchen amenities and grill on the far wall. Stone flooring extends past pool area toward the guest house, while glass ceiling element allows for natural lighting.
Lower level family room wraps large white L-shaped sectional and twin metal frame armchairs around a cubic black coffee table, in front of massive gas fireplace surround. Floor to ceiling glass allows for expansive views over back yard.
Rotating our angle, we see the sprawling open space comprising this floor: kitchen in far background, glass exteriors all around, and a sprinkling of natural wood shelving and countertops punctuating the neutral grey tones.
Formal dining room features elegant, lengthy dark wood table with matching cabinetry, unique art pieces scattered throughout, and pristine view toward the front courtyard.
Front living room space involves a similar arrangement of white sectional, twin chairs, and coffee table set before wide gas fireplace with floor to ceiling brick surround.
Upper floor spreads opulence over natural hardwood flooring, with a range of mocha furniture pieces and glass framed catwalk overlooking main entrance.
Here’s a close view of the all-glass front entrance from the second floor catwalk. Views of surrounding nature through floor to ceiling glass abound, and enclosed courtyard is seen on left.
The kitchen features a grand dual-section island, with main body in dark cabinetry and white marble countertop plus natural wood dining space extension. Slate grey cabinetry abounds throughout, matching the dining set on left.
Bedroom continues the grey and natural wood motif of the upper floor, with glass patio door allowing for private balcony space.
Primary bedroom features another massive gas fireplace and brick surround, with large dark toned bed paired with matching dressers on a beige area rug. At the rear is another large sliding glass panel, allowing access to the furnished upper level patio.
Bathroom features another novel tone: narrow blue tile across vanity wall breaks up the neutral tones. Marble topped counter and seamless glass shower stand below sky light slit.
Primary bath contains a lengthy marble trough-style sink, white pedestal tub basking in natural light, and massive walk-in glass shower on right.
Immense walk-in closet space is awash with natural wood throughout, with shelving and drawers built into the walls, matching a caster-mounted, glass-topped island at center.
Upper level children’s bedroom pairs white wood framed beds over animal skin rug on the same natural hardwood flooring deployed throughout the second floor. Once again, glass exterior wall and door open to private balcony space.
Finally, a direct view of the private front courtyard, as seen through massive glass and black metal framed entryway.
