Welcome to our gallery featuring the exhilarating, modern Hawthorn House, a project by Canny.
This home was designed with swimming pool integration as the central theme, with a modern open-plan layout hugging an exquisite pool design.
The two story structure has it all, from a unified glass facade to dark timber polished floorboards running throughout the richly detailed interior. The white walls on the interior and exterior help unify the presence of the home within the landscape.
The home interior centers on a broad open-plan space that integrates a living room, dining, and kitchen area. This space is entirely wrapped in glazing, with a massive sliding glass panel that opens toward the patio.
This fully-open design ethos is a major component of what makes the home unique, and helps blend it within the landscape. When slid completely open, the line between inside and outdoor spaces vanishes.
The patio itself is mostly sheltered by a wide roof extension, dotted with recessed lighting and large skylight cutouts. Across the patio, a semi-complete outdoor kitchen set fills in the picture, and helps to further conflate the indoor and outdoor areas of the home.
Moving deeper inside, a lower level cellar heighten the sense of luxury with a rich all-wood layout, wet bar, and extensive wine racks throughout. This dark toned luxury contrasts with the bright whites seen throughout the rest of the home.
That deeply ingrained luxury and progressive modern structure extends outdoors, across the patio, embracing the custom L-shaped swimming pool. The pool and patio were designed and built by Integrated Pools.
Integrated Pools also completed the stunning C-shaped pool house at the far end of the property, perfectly bookending the entire landscape in a thoroughly modern style.
We love the way that the entire structure, including landscape, is crafted into a cohesive experience from end to end, and the way the home design meshes sympathetically with the patio and pool. We hope you feel as awed and inspired by this unique modern home.
While the backyard and integrated pool area is the clear showcase of the exterior, the front of the home competes for attention with a bespoke white-clad facade, tightly manicured yard, and surrounding white and wrought iron gate.
The center of the interior is a large open-plan space that combines the living room, dining, and kitchen functions over an expansive dark hardwood floor. The kitchen is seen here, defined by its massive island in black and white.
Moving back, we see the full expanse of the open-plan space, wrapped in full height glazing for a truly breathtaking view of the surroundings. The white interior and dark hardwood flooring work in textural contrast to the exterior, awash in light grey concrete and surrounded by greenery.
The textural contrast between interior and outside is important, as the immense sliding glass panels help to literally erase the distinction between inside and out. The kitchen, dining, and living room areas all equally enjoy exposure to fresh air and sunshine.
Looking closer at the kitchen, we see the sleek white, hardware-less cabinetry wrapping a minimalist space, defined as much by its drop ceiling with recessed lighting as the large island at center. The island features a raised black surface for in-kitchen dining.
Now we see the kitchen at dusk, with aย glow from inside, as well as from the recessed lighting in the patio overhang, spreading across the landscape. The constellation of minuscule light sources keeps the area bright without obstructing the clean lines.
Across from the kitchen, we see a large black wall near the entryway, working like the strip of black in the kitchen island for a high contrast appearance, spiking the expanse of white.
With the sliding glass panels full opened, the space spills out onto a patio that features a lengthy dining table, at right. Beyond that we can see the large pool and unique glass-wrapped pool house at the far corner.
The dining table, in pure white, bridges the space between the kitchen and living areas. The living room itself is a minimalist affair, with a pair of striped contemporary sofas and a wall-mounted television surrounded by dark wood shelving.
Here’s a more cozy room in the home, with traditional sized window, centered on a bespoke gas fireplace. A pair of dark wood shelving sets flank the chimney, while a singular swivel-mounted club chair stands on the brown carpet.
The primary bathroom spreads over an expanse of dark marble flooring, with a glass enclosed walk-in shower at right and large soaking tub beneath the window at left. The floating double vanity features white cabinetry and a marble surface supporting a pair of white vessel sinks.
The home contains a fully decked out laundry room, replete with white cabinetry and black countertops. Large format brown tile flooring acts in smart contrast, adding warmth and a connection to the tone of the hardwood elsewhere in the home.
One of the most unique features of this home is a luxurious wine cellar with a built-in bar, wrapped in dark stained wood from top to bottom. With a wet bar and rows of wine racks, this space is fully equipped to store and serve in equal measure.
The pool area itself is divided from the lawn and patio by a svelte glass balustrade, allowing for clean and open visual lines across the landscape. The upper floor of the home is visible here, peeking over the wide expanse of patio overhang.
With this closer view, we can see the outdoor kitchen functions built into the patio, at far left, helping to further blur the line between indoor and outdoor spaces in this home. The overhang contains recessed lighting and several skylights for enhanced lighting, day or night.
From here we can see directly into the home via the wide expanse of fully retracted sliding glass. Across the pool and through the balustrade, we see the innovative pool house at the far end of the yard.
The pool house sits full wrapped within the balustrade, with an interior wrapped in its own seamless glazing. The entire landscape is carefully crafted to emphasize the white toned enclosures and contrast with natural surrounding elements.
Inside the pool house, we see an utterly minimalist space, with a C-shaped curve. There’s a small bar at one end and a large open space for relaxing inside.
With a wide corner angle, the entire house comes into view in its open-design splendor. The wholehearted integration with the pool and patio makes for a strikingly unique experience.
