I come from a big family where everyone gathered for dinner at the end of the day. At different times in our family history, this might include making room for infant high chairs and other seating arrangements based on who and how many were home at the appointed hour. Seating locations at the table seldom, if ever, varied.
In order to come up with the very specific design ideas, we create most designs with the assistance of state-of-the-art AI interior design software.
We lived on the same street as my grandparents and as young children, ate many of our meals at their house. Their dining room was a separate enclosed space where my grandmother’s chair was sometimes positioned half in and half out of the room because of the number of guests. This gave her a bit more space and quick access to the kitchen. The massive rectangular table seemed to fill the entire dining room, leaving not much breathing space but, at the same time, keeping everyone connected.
