I think the world would be a much better place if everybody just lived in the tropics, or had a taste of the tropics more often in their lives. There’s something about being warm and covered in sand that really makes all the worries of life just melt away.
I am a person who lives in Canada, so much of my life is spent dreaming about being in the tropics, or working enough so that I can take a vacation in the tropics. Something I didn’t really consider, is finding little ways to bring the tropics to me! One way that this can be done is through interior decorating.
There are two rooms that allow for a more tropical theme to them: the bathroom, and of course, the kitchen. You don’t have to live in the Bahamas to have a vacation-style kitchen, you can do that even if you live in Minnesota or Alberta!
Tropical-style kitchen designs are going to feature some crucial elements: gorgeous stone, woven furniture, wooden features, and of course, an explosive amount of greenery. We hope that this collection inspires your own tropical directed interior design projects. Enjoy!
1. The View Room Kitchen
Floors & Walls: Well well well, we are starting off this collection with a simply astoundingly beautiful kitchen design. This is modern, spacious, open, airy, and pretty much anything that you could ever want from a tropical vacation kitchen. While not all of us sleep with banana plants outside our windows, we can still take inspiration from spaces like these.
This all starts with enormous and gorgeous limestone tiling and off-white wall paint. Black framing is used for the ceiling and for the wall to wall windows, which creates a stark contrast and a very dramatic effect. SO chic! I honestly can’t get over these windows. It’s too much.
Features & Furniture: This chic-ness continues with this glorious kitchen island that is enrobed in super rustic wooden panels, topped with white marble counter tops, and a wonderful gas stove feature. The breakfast bar is all set up with some midcentury modern inspired high stools, and the dining area looks nothing but luxurious with a giant wooden table surrounded by matching stools.
Decor: Come to think of it, there isn’t a stitch of extra decoration in this room, but it truly doesn’t need it. That is the true tell of a well designed room: when you don’t need anything but the basics for it to be complete. Minimal and wonderful, this kitchen is truly something to behold.
This amazing kitchen space was designed by Benjamin Garcia Saxe Architecture, and you can check out the rest of the home design right here!
2. The Minimalistic Jungle Kitchen
Floors & Walls: Well this is a rather simple room that is turned incredible very quickly. Simple limestone floors are met with matching wall tiles and crisp white ceilings. This portion of the home is honestly rather plain, but the minute you glance to the right, everything changes.
Below a floating staircase we receive an indoor coy pond. Level with the floors, the pond is filled with crystal clear water and gorgeous plants like lily pads and giant leafy plants that are all just thriving underneath an incredible skylight. This room wouldn’t have been included if not for this breathtaking feature.
Features & Furniture: This space is highly minimal with a white waterfall kitchen island with simple matching chairs. Stainless steel appliances bring in an industrial feel, while a crisp white dining set is a bit too matchy-matchy for me. I like some rustic elements in my kitchen, and this one is a bit on the hospital-side for me.
Decor: Since this room is so overwhelmingly minimal, it could really use some decoration. Some robust textures and organic materials could really warm it up, some vases of fresh flowers and maybe some pastel paintings to warm up the crispness of the walls. There’s a ton of potential here!

3. The Modest Indoor/Outdoor Kitchen
Floors & Walls: A kitchen like this is a little bit more my speed! This is such an incredible outdoor area kitchen that is probably such a dream for hosting. Modern wood panel floors are resistant to weather wear, mossy green walls really accentuate the natural feel of the room, and subtle screens keep the creepy crawlies from coming through the open side of the room!
Features & Furniture: This simple kitchen set up has everything you need, with a state of the art barbecue, a small fridge for beer and refreshments, a simple sink, and some cabinetry with some gorgeous cherry stain wood for the doors. It’s perfection!
Decor: A sweet little wicker seating area really contributes to the cozy patio feel, while little fish handles for the cabinets are a cute and kitschy touch. I would love to see a colorful floor mat in front of the kitchen area, and certainly some colorful still life paintings on the walls.
This wonderful indoor/outdoor kitchen was designed by Crosby Creations Drafting & Design Services, LLC, and you can check out the rest of the home design by clicking right here.
4. The Chic Vacation Kitchen
Floors & Walls: Wowza. Now this is really somethin’ else! I love how each element used in the room are all so different, but they come together to create something textural, multidimensional, and honestly, really chic. It all starts with huge limestone tiles for the floors, and the pillars of the room are encased in some modern wood panels with a lighter gray stain.
Features & Furniture: The main features of this kitchen are really where things start to get amazing. Gorgeous stonework has been used to decorated foundational aspects, which is in high contrast to the modern black cabinets and sleek white countertops. Stainless steel appliances bring in that industrial element, but everything comes together and creates one amazingly chic room, that could certainly be warmed up with some rustic stools and textured decorations.
Decor: You can’t really get the true feel of a room unless it’s been lived it, so I find that this room is just begging for some personal effects. Some cute stools, some beautiful pottery, vases of flowers, and gorgeous bowls filled with fresh fruits is really all you need in order to make a room feel complete.

5. The Suburban Dream Kitchen
Floors & Walls: Here we have a kitchen that is more on the classic suburban side of things, but I find it to be entirely charming. The floors are made from some lovely sand-colored wood panels, and high ceilings make way for cream colored paint in the kitchen, and more sage green paint in the living room. This is a very reliable color combination to use.
Features & Furniture: I really love the shape of this kitchen! While open kitchens are really wonderful too, there’s something extra cozy about this one. It also makes for a very efficient working space if high quality and well executed meals are your main prerogative in life.
Cream colored cabinets and drawers are topped with gorgeous marbled stone countertops. The quaint kitchen island is host to the gas stove top, while the wall is host to a double oven and a camouflage refrigerator (a particularly nice touch).
Decor: This kitchen is decorated in just the way that I like kitchens to be decorated: with beautiful kitchen items. All you really need is some decorative pots and bowls, vases of flowers, both fresh and dry,
6. The Tickled Turquoise Kitchen
Floors & Walls: This kitchen is bright, fun, charming, and quite stylish. And not to mention very tropical themed! Which is why we are all here! Sometimes tropical themed-things can come out feeling a little bit corny, but this one is just the right amount.
Gorgeous limestone tiles line the floors (a common element of tropical themed rooms) and walls have been painted a bright turquoise color. The borders have been painted white and ceilings have been painted turquoise too, which is rather unusual but totally works in this space. Floors to ceiling windows in every direction allows for the tropical greenery outside to infiltrate the space.
Features & Furniture: This super spacious kitchen has such a lovely design to it. Very light wood has been used to for the cabinets and drawers, which is a very nice accompaniment to the super bright turquoise walls. Shining black countertops bring in an element of elegance, and the white backsplash for the breakfast bar is a welcome contrast. I personally love these rattan stools with white cushions: they’re rustic but chic, and they really bring the room together.
Decor: This kitchen is very sweet and perfectly lived in, with decorations coming in the form of decorative dishware and bowls of fresh fruit. You don’t really need much decoration in a room when the room itself is surrounded with windows and outside the windows there’s just a jungle.
7. The Homiest Hosting Kitchen
Floors & Walls: This is such a sweet and homey room. Beautiful rustic tiles line the floors, the walls are painted a warm tan color, and the backsplash of the kitchen is made from limestone tiles as well. All of this comes together to create a very monochromatic look, and I think it’s really lovely. The landscape windows across the back wall of the kitchen provide the perfect amount of brightness to the subduedly toned room.
Features & Furniture: This L shaped kitchen is rustic and cozy with its beautiful decorative mosaics running along the cabinets, the countertops are made from chunky tan tiles, and the barbecue is state of the art. I’m just coming to realize that this is probably an outdoor kitchen set off of a backyard! I personally love this round table that is surrounded by woven chairs and topped with fun dishes and a vase of bright flowers.
Decor: This outdoor kitchen has everything that it needs, including sweet little decorations! It’s decorated in proper fashion with vases of flowers, sweet little ceramics, and a lovely set of dishes set around this round table. I personally love a round table, it’s perfect for playing cards!
8. The Fun & Flirty Tropical Kitchen
Floors & Walls: What a cute funky fresh kitchen! This is such a wonderful space for hosting thanks to its open concept and welcoming feel. Lovely tiles adorn the floor before making way for some beautiful blue/green walls with white trim to class everything up. The most special part of this kitchen is the fact that there are huge windows in every direction, really contributing to that tropical feel.
Features & Furniture: This L shaped kitchen has no storage of shortage and prep space. A rounded counter juts out from the main portion of the kitchen and is prepped with white cabinets and a shining black stone countertop. The kitchen island itself is painted the same color as the walls to connect the dining area with the prepping area, and open window cabinets makes everything feel nice and open.
Decor: Another aspect of this kitchen that really contributes to the tropical theme is the dedication to plants! I find it to be rather uncommon that people have plants in their kitchen and I’m not totally sure why! Plants add movement, they add life and freshness, and not to mention they also increase the oxygen in the room! I also adore this little dainty breakfast nook.

9. The Sunroom Kitchen
Floors & Walls: I don’t even know where to begin with this room its so wonderful. What an incredible idea to have an inside/outside room like this. It’s probably amazing for any time of year: repose from the afternoon heat, or safety from chilly evenings.
The floor is adorned with gorgeous stone bricks that really gives the place a rustic foundation. The walls have been painted a really lovely mossy green color, but only where there are actually walls! The rest is simply a solarium with wide open views.
Features & Furniture: I would probably spend all of my time out here if I lived here. It comes equipped with a quaint kitchen island and some high top stools, a state-of-the-art barbecue with a corresponding hood vent, and in the back of the room there are a couple seating areas with patio furniture. But, obviously, the star of the show here is that jacuzzi tub set right underneath the solarium.
Decor: While the room is currently undecorated, I think it would look so marvelous with some huge leafy plants, some colorful throw pillows and blankets on the patio furniture, and maybe some bowls of fresh fruit or vases of fresh flowers scattered around the room.

10. The Pizza Oven Kitchen
Floors & Walls: And yet another absolutely incredible outdoor kitchen set up. This room begins with some lovely lighter toned tiles, and some faux finish walls in a super light brown color. Super high ceilings are gorgeous with peeking windows at the top and some exposed wood foundation.
Features & Furniture: Just because it’s an outdoor kitchen doesn’t mean it can’t be incredibly stylish. This kitchen comes equipped with a generously sized kitchen island with a stunning mosaic backsplash and brown stone countertops. A brand new barbecue sits closest to the windows, while this built-in stone pizza oven is just so beyond anything I could ever imagine. I now know what I want my future to look like.
Decor: While the room is quite stunning all on its own, I do find that there are some ledges that are just begging to be topped with some colorful vases, decorative bowls, and fun little trinkets. I’d also love to see some textured floor mats and some artwork on the walls.
This amazing kitchen was sourced from Zillow Digs TM.
11. The Under-the-Sea Kitchen
Floors & Walls: Okay so before I mentioned that tropical themes can sometimes become a little bit tacky, and this is definitely as example of that. But I don’t really think there’s anything wrong with tacky. This room is so sweet and so fun and honestly, sometimes I get tired of living in a world that is so dedicated to being “cool” and “stylish” and “trendy”.
This room is just timelessly wild and that type of stuff is worth preserving. The space starts with dark hardwood floors that are met with what looks like grassy wallpaper to create a grass hut effect I believe.
Features & Furniture: Obviously the most incredible part of this room is the structure of the kitchen cabinets. They’re painted such a gorgeous ocean blue color, but the detailing of the trim and the ornate detail of the doors is really remarkable. I love how it creates this sweet little cove, and clever lighting is placed all throughout.
The countertops are a bit more subdued (thank god) and made from white marbled stone. I honestly adore how these strange little woven stools with green cushions match the little drink cart in the corner. This room is just so fun I can’t take it!
Decor: Seeing as the entire room is one giant decoration, I think it was a solid choice to not add too much more for risk getting into “too much” territory.
This wonderful room was sourced from Zillow DigsTM.
12. The Simple & Serene Kitchen
Floors & Walls: We’re going back into minimal land with this really quaint and cozy kitchen. I really like what’s going on here. The super dark hardwood floors give us a rustic foundation, and really allows for lightness in the rest of the room as seen in the white walls and light blue backsplash. The warmth of the wooden panel ceiling really ties the whole thing together.
Features & Furniture: The kitchen itself is single wall with plain white cabinets, and a lovely kitchen island with a breakfast bar and two woven ottoman seats underneath it, which bring us another welcomed rustic element.
Decor: This beautiful room is so lovely with its antique runner on the floor and the pots of happy orchids. Orchids are such striking flowers, especially these purple ones, and they are such a fantastic way to add a bold blast of color in a room.
This beautiful space was designed by MHK Architecture & Planning.
13. The Sexy Kitchen
Floors & Walls: This is a really sexy room isn’t it! Limestone tiles adorn the floors while cream colored walls give us a blank slate to bring in some really special features like this dark hardwood trim, amazing landscape windows, and huge sliding door that leads to the backyard.
Features & Furniture: While gorgeous, this kitchen doesn’t really mess around either. It all starts with an L shaped feature that’s adorned with gorgeous dark hardwood cabinetry, but then we’re met with not one, but two kitchen islands with matching wooden backing and stunning gray marble waterfall countertops. These leather stools are very classy and stylish additions.
Decor: I love to see a giant orchid in any room, but I find them especially lovely in kitchens. Now all we need is some gorgeous ceramic decorations, bowls of vibrant fruit, and colorful hand towels and this room will be perfection.
This striking room was designed by GM Construction, Inc.
14. The Sunniest Tropical Kitchen
Floors & Walls: I do declare that this is my favorite room in the entire collection. It so incredibly bright, airy, and stylish, but so welcoming at the same time. Bright white floors really bring in that bright daylight, and really high ceilings make the room feel so expansive.
Features & Furniture: This L shaped kitchen I find rather unique with the color choice for the cabinets and the vertical siding (I love how these look!). What I find particularly sexy is the fact that both the countertops and backing of the kitchen are made from dark concrete. It’s modern but warm, and timelessly stylish.
I also really adore how there is a seating area instead of a kitchen island here. There is so much counter space already, so I love the idea of incorporating a place to host in the kitchen. I also adore a round table, especially one that is so gorgeously midcentury modern inspired.
Decor: This gorgeous kitchen is decorated in the precise fashion that I like: with plants and personal effects. Huge windows give us that tropical feel with the greenery outdoors, while indoors it’s perfect mixture of homey and minimal. I have no notes. This room is perfection.
This exquisite room was designed by The Designory.
15. The Stylish Tropical Kitchen
Floors & Walls: Wow! This is such a special room! I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it before. The floor is divided between rustic hardwood and a lovely mosaic of hexagonical tiles, within which I might add we have an actual live palm tree growing out of it.
Super high ceilings make way for crisp white walls, floor to ceiling windows, and a really neat hanging shelving feature that also acts as a backing to the staircase. There are so many interesting things going on in this room!
Features & Furniture: This lovely L shaped kitchen has distressed black wood for backing, and bright shining white countertops. This is contrasted with woven stools with copper framing (unusual, but lovely). I like how there are two levels to these breakfast bars, really allowing for a ton of seating that still feels interactive. Very smart!
Decor: This room is beautifully decorated with quaint knick knacks on the shelves, pendant light bulbs hanging over the main part of the room, and of course, true to our theme, enormous and incredibly leafy plants in every corner of the space.
This amazing space was designed by DESIGN 4 CORNERS.
16. The Dreamy Tropical Vacation Kitchen
Floors & Walls: Okay I lied. Maybe this is my favorite room of the collection. I don’t even know where to begin it’s all so glorious. We have soft cement floors to bring in some industrial inspiration, but the roofing is meant to portray kind of a grass-hut facade which is in high contrast the the modernity of the room.
The entryway is obviously the star of the show with a sky light over head to help keep a square of happy tropical plants growing right out of a squared out piece in the middle of the floor. So luxurious, so incredibly glorious.
Features & Furniture: I love this single wall open kitchen with gorgeous hardwood cabinets, but I love even more the kitchen island. It’s quite unusual to see a kitchen island with rounded edges like this and it does such a good job of making the kitchen area feel even more open to the rest of the room.
Speaking of the rest of the room, this midcentury modern dining set is so gorgeous I honestly want to scream. There are so many different inspirations going on here, but I find that it all works gloriously together.
Decor: Though this room is already perfect and complete, we can always go above and beyond with some gorgeously textured rugs, beautiful ceramics, decorative bowls, and some colorful art on the walls. This room is minimal and so it allows for your personal effects to really shine.
