These days, Tom and Molly Bedell are very busy with Tomโs guitar factory in Bend, Oregon, and in Nashville, where they opened an 8,000-square-foot music store, they call “Two Old Hippies,” with a live music venue, guitar sales, jewelry, clothing, and boots. This is a couple not easily held down.
Theyโre movers and doers who want to make a difference in all their ventures. Judging by the storeโs website and their faithful fans, theyโve become a well-loved part of the Nashville scene.
Sometimes in order to be successful, you have to make adjustments. Having opened their store in 2011 and overseeing the Oregon guitar factory, it became obvious that there was no time to enjoy their 610-acre Peace Ranch near Aspen. The couple bought the ranch in 2003, then known as the Schweppe Ranch.
Like everything else they put their minds to, their golden touch has turned the ranch into one of the most notable equestrian compounds in the country. The riding area and associated facilities cover a full acre or about 43,000 square feet. The building also contains a “cool bar,” fitness center, two-bedroom apartment, and indoor arena measuring 108โ x 204.โ
The even larger 150โ x 240โ outdoor riding arena has a viewing area that includes a patio with a barbecue grilling area. Along with the various corrals and facilities, there is also a convenient snowmelt system. Total peace and privacy are guaranteed by the White River National Forest with single access via private Forest Service road entry which is gated and secure.
Although there is no trophy house, there are five separate residences totaling 16 bedrooms. Not only for horseback riding of the numerous trails, but the four also stocked trout ponds offer great fishing. More evidence that the Bedells always go the extra mile is a custom room for equestrian apparel and a fishing room complete with gear.
Peace Ranch is well located being 15 minutes from the town of Basalt and 45 minutes from Aspen. Though county laws allow for 35-acre subdivisions, another option is to place the ranch in a conservation easement, which reduces or extinguishes the development potential and provides tax credits and incentives.
Originally priced at $49.5 million, other high-end ranches in the area have sold with similar price tags such as Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan’s 90-acre Hola Ranch and an adjoining property that sold for $49 million in 2012. Mandalay Ranch outside Snowmass Village sold for $46 million in 2004 and Crystal Island Ranch, outside of Carbondale, sold for $47 million in 2006. For more information.
