3 years ago my wife and I learned we were having a baby.
What ensued was baby planning which included plenty of online research for the best baby furniture, gear, clothing, diapers, etc.
Baby research is time-intensive because safety is paramount. Every parent wants to offer a safe and comfortable environment for babies and young children.
When it came to buying a crib, we opted for a new crib. After all the research, we opted for a traditional white rectangle 3-in-1 crib that converts into a toddler bed. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s worked well for us.
If, however, you have a small nursery space and/or would like something different, you can buy a round baby crib. They definitely look different. In fact, if you plan on placing your crib in the center of a room (or anywhere not set against a wall), circular baby cribs look better (in my view).
Before revealing our gallery of round baby cribs, I’d like to set out pros and cons of these types of cribs. I’ve done the research and invested a fair amount of time weighing crib buying options… so here are my thoughts and research results.

Advantages of Circular Baby Cribs
1. Safer? Arguably with no corners, a round crib is a safer furniture option in the nursery.
1. Saves space: ย From a space perspective, they’re a smaller footprint than the typical rectangle crib.
2. Aesthetic: ย I think they look better when placed in the center of a room.
3. It’s unique: ย If you enjoy bucking trends, a round crib is different. Not too many parents opt for this crib design.
Disadvantages of Round Cribs
1. Limited bedding options: ย Because round cribs aren’t nearly as popular as rectangle cribs, you’ll have a more difficult search for bedding.
2. Transportation: ย Once assembled, it may not fit through some doors. This means you may need to disassemble it to move it to another room or residence.
3. Wall-placement isn’t a great option: ย While it may look okay tucked in a corner, round cribs are ideal for center-of-the-room placement. This limits you if you decide down the road to place it against a wall. Obviously it’s possible to place it against a wall… it just doesn’t look as good as a rectangle crib that fits flush.
4. Less surface area for the baby: ย Babies move around (at least ours did and does). A round crib is shorter and doesn’t offer as much space.
5. It’s only a crib: ย Many traditional cribs convert into toddler beds. Round cribs don’t.
And then there are oval cribs…
If you like the smooth contour of a round crib that looks great in the middle of the nursery, consider an oval crib. With an oval crib, you gain many of the advantages of both rectangle and circle cribs.
Just a thought… and because it’s a good consideration, our gallery below includes oval crib options. Check out the Stokke oval crib that converts into a round and vice versa. That’s pretty cool.
