Interior Designer: Ami McKay – Pure Design
Ami McKay, Principal of Pure Design believes the foundation of great design is found in the art of giving. Giving of oneself to the process of creating a home that her clients can live their best lives. The work of her award winning design team has been recognized internationally for their design of mid to high end interiors.
The owners of Mauzo Residence asked Ami to help them create a spacious and welcoming kitchen with an Italian Farmhouse feeling. The owner’s father recently moved in with them and
they wanted the home to be reminiscent of his hometown in the Isernia region of Italy. The house was relatively new so Ami needed to create as much character as possible in the
kitchen. The client’s must have’s included lots of counter space for cooking up Italian feasts including pasta and pizza and canned goods. They requested Italian appliances as well as a meat slicer and a coffee bar.
Ami and the clients agreed upon a checkerboard patterned floor, and Ami chose large scale porcelain tile in grey and white. Brass fixtures were chosen for the island as well as brass lined
pendants. The Italian theme continued with Calcutta Viola marble countertops and an Italian lime plaster treatment on the vent hood with a marble accent.
Functionality is found in the kitchen with two dishwashers, a broom closet tucked into the cabinet, a pot filler and six burner cooktop.
The colour palette is subtle, earthy and warm with a combination of light greys, whites and light wood millwork.
