Oil, shellac, acrylic, alkyd and hybrid products can coexist perfectly well in many approved coating systems. The trouble begins when products are combined without checking whether one is designed to accept the next.
Don’t make compatibility decisions from broad rules such as “water over oil never works.” Read the topcoat and primer technical information and use an approved combination. Not Removing the Doors and Drawer Fronts

Choosing Paint Based Only on Sheen

Shaker doors and decorative profiles are excellent little reservoirs. Push too much paint into an inside corner and it settles into a rounded ridge that softens the very detail the door was designed to show.
