Harry Gesner is a former surfer and became an architect by teaching himself. He even designed his famous Wave House while on his surfboard in the water. He drew it on the board with a grease pencil. He has many widely acclaimed and popular works. One of which, the Triangle House, is for sale now for $3.9 million. Situated in Tarzana, California amongst nature, the house spans 5,278 square feet.

The home is secured by a modern gate, with you guessed it, triangles for decoration. After driving through the gate, the modern style and unique design come through. Cars are parked in a futuristic garage. Gesner uses a variety of interesting angles in the Triangle House and also creates an environment that seamlessly flows to the outdoors.
There is wide use of glass, bringing the outdoors inside. The great room is the focal point of the house. There is a large single wall style kitchen that also includes a large island with a breakfast bar counter and a dining nook. Down a few steps is a comfortable living space.
The Triangle house has four bedrooms and four bathrooms. The primary bedroom is a large suite with a bathroom with modern wall tiles and glass windows. There is also a large media room and a wine cellar that can hold hundreds of bottles of wine. The outdoor space is perfect for enjoying the mild southern California climate.
There is a fire pit with a seating area as well as a swimming pool with ample space on the deck for socializing and relaxing. A guest house is also located on the property across the terrace. It is a replica of the main house and can be used for visitors or for an office. The landscaping is also tasteful and natural-looking. The property spans 1.3 acres and is located down a long drive.
Harry Gesner began designing homes in 1945. He has a long list of famous houses and the design for the Sydney Opera House was even inspired by his design ideas. A few of his other most famous works include Ravens Eye, Eagles Watch, Scantlin House, and Sandcastle, in which Gesner lived for 50 years. All of his designs try to incorporate nature into the home.
Take a look at the book Houses of the Sundown Sea to explore his most famous homes. The book was published in 2012 and includes notes and designs from his archive as well as presentations and reviews of the homes that made him famous. Gesner is now 95 years old and surfed as long as he was able, only stopping a few years ago.
