New designs set to continue an award-winning partnership between the Finnish brand and American artist
Helsingfors, Finland, 2018-03-23 – Finnish design collective FEATHR are on a mission to fill the world with more art and less decoration. FEATHR roam the world collaborating with contemporary artists to create original wallpaper and fabrics.
Their latest collaboration is with the American abstract artist, Kiki Slaughter and features wallpaper based on two new artworks by her, Safari and Dreamboat.
Slaughter works from her crumbling studio in a 19th-century cotton gin factory. Her work is an experiment with the fundamental process of painting. She pours, scrapes, layers and otherwise manipulates paint on the canvas to create works that are rich in both color and texture.
Dreamboat was painted with oil and acrylics on canvas in a palette of petrol blues and moss greens. Originally a diptych of canvases, Dreamboat demonstrates the experimental, organic and textural nature of Slaughterโs art.
Safari adds an extra touch of luxury. Amongst the artfully weathered layers of oil and acrylic-lay dashes of metallics: gold, bronze, steel, and patinated coppers.
Both wallpapers faithfully reproduce the dramatic detail of Slaughterโs original artwork: the warp and weft of the canvas; the fine markings from her brush strokes; the crafted cracks running through layers of oil paint.
Tom Puukko, the founder at FEATHR.com, said: โKikiโs work involves the viewer at so many levels. From a distance, you see the drama of the complete piece; up close you engage with the individual gestural actions of the painter. Theyโre such stunning artworks and weโre delighted to collaborate with Kiki to bring her work into peopleโs interior projects.โ
Kiki Slaughter said, โThe FEATHR team reached out to me a year or so ago about turning my art into wallpaper. I was inspired by the idea and their enthusiasm and was excited to collaborate. I am so glad we didโwhenever I see my work up in an interior I feel totally humbled. I put my heart into my work and I love each piece but for someone else to feel the same is the biggest compliment.โ
FEATHRโs and Slaughterโs first collaborationโthe Oh La La wallpaper and fabric collectionโhas been awarded Surface of the Year 2017 (World Interiors News Awards), along with no.2 spot at the Homes & Gardens Wallpaper of the Year Awards 2016.
