The project is located on a plot of 1700 m2 in the neighborhood of jardรญn del este, an old neighborhood in the eastern area of Santiago. The commission was to design two very familiar modern houses, with large interior and exterior spaces that allow to receive many guests without losing the privacy of the house. The program is developed on two levels.
The first floor that involves all the common spaces, prioritizing transparency towards the garden and terraces, generating patios that integrate the exterior with the interior. The kitchen is raised as a very important enclosure within the houses, apart from meeting its functional requirements it is a family meeting space, this is achieved because of its location in the house, the materials used, and the view of a large interior patio.
This level contains large sliding doors that link or separate the spaces according to the need of the moment, this is achieved through large three-leaf windows that when opened join the spaces. On the second level, we have all the bedrooms, this is a more of a private, closed to the outside level, it has a very functional distribution and seeks to have a good sunlight, orienting the bedrooms to the north and east.
The four children’s bedrooms share access to a terrace garden, the latter is a green roof that gives freshness and a great atmosphere to all bedrooms. The distribution of the master bedrooms is the only different thing in both houses, this is because of the requirements of each owner. Both bedrooms have a terrace and a second-floor garden view.
The houses prioritize the use of three materials, concrete, wood (thermo-treated), and glass. The houses are completely made of reinforced concrete, leaving many concrete walls in sight, this is complemented by wood in wall coverings and exterior ceilings.
