Goodman owned the home during the years he performed in L.A. It’s situated on one-third of an acre, nestled in a neighborhood of tree-lined streets. Even in this upscale area, the 5,000-square-foot mansion is hard to miss, as it combines older and more modern features.
The nearly 100-year-old home has been updated to meet contemporary standards but hasn’t lost its quaint charm. For instance, the original vaulted-beamed ceilings, arched windows, Spanish-tile stair risers, and wood-burning fireplaces remain long after additions and renovations were completed. In fact, the entire home is modeled after the Spanish architectural style.
The home’s early 20th-century light fixtures and molding have been preserved too. One feature that makes this home stand out is the rotunda staircase (decked out in Spanish tiles). The stairs are bordered by a wrought-iron railing that features intricate designs, a display of premier craftsmanship.
Inside are many rooms, some of which weren’t part of the original layout, but were added later. The home has five bedrooms and six baths, plenty of room for your family or guests. There are also several formal rooms and a family room, giving you a lot of space to entertain.
One “plus” (among many) about this house is that it provides ample amenities to prepare food for dinner parties and whatever other events might be held in all those rooms. As one might expect, the home is equipped with a gourmet kitchen and breakfast room.
But that’s not all. There is also a summer kitchen, so it’s possible to prepare meals for a crowd. Seasoned home cooks and professional chefs alike will love all the culinary considerations put into this home.
The mansion comes with a home office/study, so if you’re a telecommuter, you can have a designated space for all your work-related tasks.
It probably goes without saying that this posh home has a lot to offer, but the grounds of the estate don’t disappoint either. Outside the main house is a living area and pool. There’s a guest house too, although it’s been primarily purposed as a music studio. One-third of an acre may sound like a modest lot size, but it’s not bad by city standards. And this lot certainly has more than its share of amenities.
Benny Goodman
Often referred to as the “King of Swing”, Benny Goodman was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1909. He was the ninth of eleven siblings. As a child, he took up the clarinet and left school at age 14 to join the National Federation of Musicians. His career as a bandleader reached its height in the 1930s when swing music was especially popular.
