About Sir Elton John
Born in Harrow, Greater London, England, Sir Elton John is a British composer, pianist, and singer who exploded with popular music during the 70s and has continued to tour until recently. Raised in the Pinner, London suburb, John started playing piano at an early age, thus earning him a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music, which helped refine his skills for the next five years. In 1962, he collaborated to create Bluesology, a blues band but left in 1967 to focus on a solo career.
At this time, he met lyricist Bernie Taupin, and for the next two years, they wrote songs for other artists while John worked in the studio as a session musician. In 1969, he launched his first album, Empty Sky, then formed the Elton John Band. His career peaked in the 1970s when he launched multiple chart-topping singles in the U.K. and U.S., which started with Honky Chateau and Rock of the Westies. He continued to have success during the 1980s and ‘90s with multiple Billboard chart-topping albums and singles during each decade. Furthermore, John has succeeded in theater and musical films and has been an HIV/AIDS charity fundraiser since the 1980s.
