It was when she visited Los Angeles and landed the crown of “Miss Deepfreeze” by a refrigerator company that she was picked up as an extra in two different films, including The French Line which was released in 1954, and starred actress Jane Russell, and Son of Sinbad in 1953.
The agent who discovered her signed her to a long-term contract with Columbia Pictures and though she fought to stay very original and unique in the world of show business, she and the CEO of Columbia Pictures, Harry Cohn, came to a compromise and settled on the name Kim Novak.

Kim Novak’s best-known roles include the ones she played in the award-winning films Picnic, Strangers When We Meet, Pal Joey, and her twin roles in Vertigo. She had a shorter career as an actress than most because she preferred a more quiet lifestyle, far away from the glittering lights and paparazzi of Hollywood. She enjoyed writing and painting more than being in the limelight as an actress and is happily leading a more quiet lifestyle, although she has acted in roles off and on through 1991.
This explains very well her attraction to the quaint, 2,070 square-foot home she purchased in Carmel, California, in 1961. She lived there until 1973 and now resides in Oregon but her amazing home with a private beach and panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean is currently on the market for sale with a price tag of $12.5 million.
The house, which features two bedrooms but has been approved for an additional 4,300 square feet to be added onto it, is nestled on two amazing acres of rocky coastline. The gorgeous home will have an additional three bedrooms and three bathrooms after the addition are completed and currently features wood-beamed ceilings that resemble works of art.
The slate floor is beautiful throughout the home that also boasts varying roof levels which were designed to maximize the amazing views of the ocean that surround this magnificent home.
The home also boasts a wood-burning fireplace and ceiling-to-floor walls made of glass to allow for even more amazing views. With the approval of plans to add more than 4,000 additional square footage to this already unique and gorgeous home, it will offer even more space to entertain family members and friends for holidays, events, or simply relaxing.
It is considered one of California’s most interesting homes and Carmel boasts several current and past celebrity residents, including Doris Day, Steve Jobs, Joan Baez, Jack London, and even the late music legend, Jimi Hendrix.
The listing agent for the now-retired 88-year-old actress Kim Novak’s former home situated on a cliff with panoramic views of the ocean is real estate agent Jonathan Spencer of Jonathan Spencer Properties located in Carmel, California. This amazing home is listed for $12.5 million.
