Before Gwyneth Paltrow became a household name, she lived in a 6,887-square-foot mansion in Santa Monica. The home was purchased by her parents, Bruce Paltrow and Blythe Danner, in 1976, and was recently listed for $17.5 million.
Located in Santa Monica’s Gillette Regent Square neighborhood, the property is located on a sprawling 9,000-square feet double lot. The neighborhood, which was developed by razor blade manufacturer King Gillette, is well-known for its extra-large lots and mature trees.
Paltrow spent most of her childhood living in this lovely mansion, which was originally built in 1913. The Paltrow family retained ownership of the home until it was sold in 2006. Shortly after, it was sold to Jerome Dahan, a French designer who founded the denim brands 7 for All Mankind and Citizens of Humanity.

Dahan made significant renovations to the property after his purchase. Today, it has many upgrades, including solar panels and an entryway with an electronic gate. While the six-bedroom, seven-and-a-half bathroom home isn’t lacking in modern conveniences, it’s managed to retain its classic charm.
The entryway to the home is encased in glass and has gorgeous hardwood floors, which can be found in nearly every room of the home. This space leads into a large living room that’s equipped with a home theater and fireplace. Just off the living room, you’ll find a guest bedroom and a spacious chef’s kitchen.
The kitchen is equipped with state-of-the-art appliances from trusted brands like Sub-Zero and Wolf. It features a built-in breakfast nook and a large island with marble countertops. Throughout the kitchen, you’ll find large windows that let in plenty of natural light.
On the upper level of the home are an office and three bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom. This is where the home’s primary bedroom is located. Instead of one primary bathroom, it has dual bathrooms. It also has a massive walk-in closet and French doors that lead out to a large balcony.
This balcony offers beautiful views of the backyard, which is one of the home’s highlights. Since the property is on a large lot, there’s no shortage of outdoor living space. Not only is the backyard filled with trees and landscaped greenery, but it has a Balinese-style pool, multiple firepits, a spa, and several outdoor dining areas.
Alongside the pool is the home’s guesthouse, which is two stories tall. The guest property is a spacious home in its own right. It’s equipped with a bedroom, bathroom, home office, gym, and even has its own sauna! It’s a great place for visiting guests and a nice place to dry off after a dip in the pool.
The outdoor area is also where you’ll find the home’s three-car garage. It has glass walls and is designed to look like an auto showroom. Whether you’re indoors or outdoors, this is a striking and secluded property with plenty of security features, including cameras and a backup generator.
Gwyneth Paltrow was still living in this property when she made her acting debut in High, a TV film directed by her late father, Bruce Paltrow. Since then, she’s appeared in many popular films, including Se7en, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Shakespeare In Love, which earned the actress an Academy Award. Today, Paltrow lives in Montecito, CA with her children and her husband, Brad Falchuk.
