Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are two of the world’s most famous movie stars. The couple purchased their New Orleans, Louisiana home just shortly after their relationship first began. They chose to live in New Orleans while working with the Make it Right Foundation, a charity founded by Pitt in 2007 that helped to rebuild homes in the area after Hurricane Katrina hit the city and surrounding neighborhoods.
After living there for over 10 years, the home was sold by the pair in 2016 for $4.9 million. It was recently put up for auction again and has now sold to the highest bidder for $2.5 million. The 7,703 square-foot home sits on 0.14 acres and is located in the historic French Quarter of the city. The mansion was built in 1828.

With private and street-side balconies abundant, the new owner can enjoy watching New Orleans’s famous parades and get a glimpse of city nightlife. The front of the home rests along 36 feet of French Quarter sidewalk. Other famous past residents of the mansion include the late co-founder of Microsoft, Paul Allen, who purchased the property from the couple in 2016. It was also once home to legendary recording artist and engineer Cosimo Matassa who once had a studio there from 1956 to 1965. The beautiful home also won the national HGTV Ultimate House Hunt in the Downtown Dwellings category earlier in 2023.
Residents enter the home via French doors from the herringbone sidewalk which leads to the foyer boasting a harlequin tile floor. The formal living room features an open, airy layout with double French doors opening to the front balcony. Five separate HVAC units keep the home’s temperature comfortable all year round, while a 200-gallon per hour tankless water heater keeps the water warm.
The mansion has seven bedrooms, five bathrooms, and two half-baths. A clean, modern interior boasts solid hardwood flooring, high ceilings, and walls of windows for a plethora of natural light. Textured Venetian plaster walls give the home an authentic look and feel, while a grand winding staircase adds a sense of grandeur. Several fireplaces with marble mantles are also inside to create a cozy, warm atmosphere. The home’s primary bathroom boasts floor-to-ceiling white marble and luxurious fixtures. Crown molding and chandeliers give the home a sense of sophistication and luxe style.
Aside from its many bedrooms and bathrooms, Pitt and Jolie’s former mansion also has a three-story guest house with many amenities, including a spiral staircase, a separate full kitchen, and a gym. A large chef’s kitchen with a butcher’s block island and a custom marble pantry are found in the main kitchen. A home gym is also available for those who enjoy a good workout, while a main elevator makes going to the higher floors a breeze.
The home’s gated, carriage-style driveway is illuminated by gas lamps that give it a vintage look and feel. Outside, there’s a beautifully maintained, private courtyard with luscious landscaping along with a swimming pool and a large fountain. The home was carefully restored in 2017, but it still retains its beautiful, 19th-century Parisian whimsy. A plethora of modern amenities make it a perfect place for those seeking to experience the unique culture and lifestyle of old-world New Orleans while also enjoying today’s modern comforts.
