Lisa is 63 and lives in Pepper Pike, Ohio, in a detached house she and her spouse own. There are two of them. The fridge door holds cat magnets.
The two of them eat dinner together seven nights a week, in different places on different nights. A normal evening runs the same way. They put on a national news station. Lisa’s husband makes dinner. They eat, and Lisa cleans up. After that they watch sports or read. Most of their time together happens in the family room. Lisa handles the design and decor and counts that as the thing done well.
Everything that comes into the house gets opened, examined, and put away right away. Lisa’s husband lived with a hoarder before, and mail and packages left sitting bother him. Boxes and packaging are what they argue about most. Home-delivered meals arrive weekly. There is a walk-in closet with the towel racks mounted inside it, and a smaller main bathroom. Her husband’s desk sits in a room they barely use. He works from his laptop on the couch instead.
Lisa grew up with four people in a two-bedroom trailer.

What’s one thing about running your household that you think you do particularly well?
My design/decor
If anyone works from home, where do they work in the home?
No one works from home.
Walk me through a normal weekday evening in your household.
We watch a national news station. My husband makes dinner. We eat. I clean-up. We watch sports and/or read.
Where does your household spend the most time together?
Family Room
Is there a room or space in your home you barely use?
The area that holds my husband’s desk. He uses his laptop while sitting on the couch.
What’s one thing your household does that other people might find strange?
Everything that comes into the house must be opened, examined and put away. Hubby lived with a hoarder previously and hates mail and packages that just sit. Also, we have a huge walk-in closet and smaller main bath. Our towel racks are inside our closet on the wall on one side.
What’s one thing you wish you’d done differently?
Had a better home inspection and better realtor before we bought.
What’s the one house rule everyone in your household knows?
We both know all our rules. We’ve been married a long time!
Is there something you or your household spends money on other people would think wasteful?
Home delivery meals weekly
What would fall apart if you left for a week?
The kitchen would be a complete mess. Plants would suffer or die. Our animals would miss me and be sad. Hubby would watch TV 24/7.
What do you argue about the most?
Getting packaging and boxes out the door right away.
How similar is your household to the one you grew up in?
Completely different
What’s the biggest difference?
I grew up in poverty. 4 people in a 2 bedroom trailer.
What did you swear you’d never do that your parents did?
Procrastinate
Anything else you want to tell me?
Not actually clear on the purpose of this. Our house is normal.
What’s something about your household you wouldn’t normally admit?
We are more wealthy than our house gives away.
