Highball is a very broad term in the world of cocktails. It has come to be the general term by which we designate any mixed drink that is composed of two ingredients: one alcoholic base and one ‘chaser’. In this sense, rum and coke are considered a highball.
That being said, the highball also shares a long history with whiskey, so much so that the cocktail name ‘highball’ was synonymous with whiskey and ginger ale. In places like Japan, ordering a highball will not be met with any confusion: you’ll get whiskey and ginger ale in a Collins glass.
To continue its legacy, I felt it very appropriate to include it in our whiskey cocktail list.
